This is part of a year long reading of the Bible chronologically in a harmonized format. 1 Samuel 26:1 - 27:12 - The Ziphites betray David's location again; Saul pursues him with 3000 men, but David and Abishai sneak into the camp at night and take Saul's spear and water jar without harming the king. - David confronts Saul from afar, spares him once more as the Lord's anointed, then flees to Philistine territory under Achish for safety, settling in Ziklag. John 13:31-38 - After Judas leaves, Jesus speaks of his glorification and gives a new commandment for disciples to love one another as he has loved them, by which all will recognize them. - Peter boldly claims he will follow Jesus anywhere and lay down his life, but Jesus predicts Peter will deny him three times before the rooster crows. Matthew 26:26-29 - During the meal Jesus takes bread, blesses and breaks it, giving it to the disciples as his body, and instructs them to eat. - He takes a cup, gives thanks, and declares it his blood of the covenant poured out for many for forgiveness of sins, vowing not to drink again until the kingdom. Mark 14:22-25 - As they eat, Jesus blesses and breaks bread, saying it is his body, and gives it to them. - He shares the cup as his blood of the covenant poured out for many and states he will not drink of the fruit of the vine again until in God's kingdom. Luke 22:17-20 - Jesus takes a cup, gives thanks, and shares it, saying he will not drink of the vine until the kingdom of God comes. - He breaks bread as his body given for them in remembrance, and later the cup as the new covenant in his blood poured out for them.
