Dear Mango, Podcast | Episode 5 | I Am Learned Experiences | Clip 7: I Canary In a Coal Mine

Your body lives in the present. Your body has been teaching you about cycles of change your whole life. And the throughline across every cycle does not start with action. It begins with acceptance and surrender. The Hudson Cycle of Change, Prochaska's Stages of Change, and the menstrual cycle. In episode 5 of Dear Mango, my former coaching client and Dear Mango Reflection Sessions attendee, Melissa, reflects on what our bodies signal to us, which we label as an inconvenience. And instead of fighting or suppressing it, we are taught to power through. What happens when you create space to honor what is no longer working for you? Listen to the full episode. Dear Mango, Podcast | Episode 5 | I Am Learned Experiences | Clip 6: I Can Have It All

For years, we have been taught that we need to focus on being good at one thing. And if you focus your skills in multiple areas, people won’t take you seriously. Which is ironic, because today we have professionals with “multi-hyphenated” titles who choose to invest in themselves and refuse to be limited to one lane. Birthed out of survival, creating one’s own safety net and lane because industries historically have not prioritized inclusion. Similar to what we are experiencing today. I’m grateful I never listened to people who loved to give unsolicited advice.  In episode 5 of Dear Mango, my former coaching client and attendee of the Dear Mango Reflection Sessions, Melissa names what it is to embrace all of who she is. She is creative and analytical and wants to honor both sides instead of choosing between them. Some things do not need to be either or. Instead, it’s learning how to honor and hold the yin and the yang. Listen to the full episode.  Dear Mango | You Just Don't Break, Do You? Dear Mango, Podcast | Episode 5 | I Am Learned Experiences | Clip 5: Past Life

Two years from now, you will look back at this moment, and you may not recognize yourself. When you start coaching, you write down exactly what you want to work on. Two years later, Melissa heard hers read back to her for the first time. In episode 5 of Dear Mango, my former coaching client and attendee of the Dear Mango Reflection Sessions, Melissa, reminds us that growth takes many forms. With her permission, I reminded Melissa of what she said she wanted to work on when we started our coaching journey together. Your own words, reflected back to you, are among the most underrated self-discovery tools. Listen to the full episode.  Dear Mango | You Just Don't Break, Do You? Dear Mango, Podcast | Episode 5 | I Am Learned Experiences | Clip 4: Running Laps

You are not ahead or behind. You are in a part of the cycle nobody taught you has a name. What goes up must come down. And what has come down finds its way back up.  In episode 5 of Dear Mango, my former coaching client and Dear Mango Reflection Session attendee, Melissa, saw her life across the various quadrants of the Hudson model from when we started our work together to today. She reflects on aspects of her life mapped across multiple stages of change. Instead of feeling overwhelmed she felt permission. The Hudson Cycle of Change and Prochaska's Stages of Change are not linear frameworks. They are mirrors of what you are experiencing. You may have been here before, but you aren’t going backwards. Running laps reflects concepts from Nipsey’s albums, “Victory Lap” and “The Marathon Continues.” Each time you return you bring lessons and it’s an opportunity to shed what no longer serves you.  As first-gen, cycle breakers, and immigrants many of our parents did not have this language. All they were taught was to work. We watched our parents pour everything into survival to the detriment of their health. We are the first ones making sense of cycles our parents never had words for. Naming where you are gives you permission to know where you stand to better understand where you are going. Listen to the full episode.  Dear Mango | You Just Don't Break, Do You?
