3.11 Kris: Crafting the Employee Experience

This week I am very excited to be joined by one of the founders of the company that champions me being a full time remote nomad. Kris Erickson is a co-founder of Workforce Science Associates, mother, author and native Nebraskan. Kris grew up in a small town in Nebraska to parents who instilled in her a love of growth, learning and being your best. She started her career during college with the Gallup Organization and Clifton Strengths learning all about what makes people great at what they do and how to get the right person into the right environment to succeed. Her career took her to a few different places but all of them led her to a place where she could take the leap with her business partner to start WSA in 2016 Kris and I talk all about her experience helping organizations craft a great employee experience, the luck and labor of love it was to build an organization using all that knowledge and just how great it is to get to work with people you enjoy doing a job that you are passionate about. episode 3.10 Michaela: Being the advocate for your health artwork

3.10 Michaela: Being the advocate for your health

I am so excited to welcome to the podcast this week my friend Michaela. We met back in the early 2010s when she started dating a good friend of mine and have so loved watching them grow their family and footprint on Nebraska. Michaela grew up in Minnesota before moving to Nebraska to own her very own chiropractic clinic. Her experiences in school and in life shaped the type of clinic she wanted to run and her journey in motherhood continue to shape the decisions she makes for her team to this day. As a parent and a medical professional she sees the value in looking at each person as a whole considering every factor and their goals before making recommendations for someones healthcare. She is a huge advocate for women’s health now owning two businesses pushing toward that mission. Michaela and I talk all about her journey into being the health care professional she is today, how motherhood has shaped her decisions and all about the businesses she runs. She shares about what she sees missing in a lot of peoples understanding of their health care including, your Bodies ability to heal, your ownership over the decisions of your body and how health care is really each decision you make every day that allows you to live the life you want to be living. 3.8 Jessica: Choosing an Alcohol Free Life

This week I have my good friend Jessica joining us for a very special conversation. Jess and I met in college through mutual friends but our friendship really blossomed after college as we became working professionals. I have seen her move through multiple phases of her career, get married and grow her family to four with two amazing daughters. Jess grew up as a Military kid moving around the country before coming to Nebraska for college. As a lover of language and story she studied English before getting a role with a technology start-up. Her passion for design and knowledge of technology drove her toward completing a masters in Human Computer interaction allowing her to take her interests and thing about how we design things for the person using them. Jess and I talk about her life and a big decision she made in the spring of 2023 to go alcohol free. This choice has made positive impact on her life, social interactions, family life and so much more over the last three years. Her story is unique but is a great example of how we can choose the life we want to living. episode 3.7 Dell: Building a Healthier Community artwork

3.7 Dell: Building a Healthier Community

This week I have a very special guest with me on the podcast. Dell and I worked together at the University of Nebraska becoming fast friends and programming partners as we pushed to make change for future scholars. Dell was a person of accountability in my life asking the right questions as the right time to keep me moving forward toward my goals. Dell grew up in Omaha Nebraska learning from an early age that community is the core of everything. As a kid his track coaches helped him see that his impact could extend far beyond the field and classroom. Dell speaks highly of those who influenced him through his life and opened the door to opportunities for him to not only learn but also make an impact on others. Through his years at TCU as a student, his time working as an admissions professional and now leading a team focused on workforce excellence for the Omaha Chamber, he is taking all he has learned and helping to build up and craft opportunities for others. Dell and I talk all about his experiences and how they shaped his prospective. How he and his incredible wife have taken an idea to make local and thoughtful toys and grown it into a maker’s market highlighting underrepresented own business from the local community. He shares about the initiates he is leading with the chamber to keep and bring young talent to Omaha and then helps give a road map for each of us to follow as we think about getting involved and being a part of making our own communities healthier and stronger. If you are interested in learning more about the Melanin Marked or about how you can make an impact on your community check out the links that Dell provided below.
