Descripción

This week on the Easy Double podcast, in what seems like a down week in the running world, that was not the case on the island of Ireland. The Dublin City Half Marathon took place, with some of Ireland's premier athletes taking to the roads, while down the other end of the country, the Great Limerick Run took place with some more fast running. Up north, the Belfast Marathon took place, which resulted in another sprint finish. Over in Sydney, the Hoka Runway Sydney Half Marathon took place, while in the US, their National Road 5K took centre stage. 📰 In running news, we discuss Abby Steiner suing Puma for defective shoes resulting in injuries, we chat about Rory Leonard leaving Andy Hobdell, and British Athletics yet again causing some controversy with their European marathon team selections. 📺 In YouTube Diaries, we discuss the athlete that is Marco Langon and break down his workout filmed on All Access Track. 👊 Olympic ticket prices get the hit on this week's Double Trouble. Join us as we break all of this down and much more. If you'd like to support the show, join us on Patreon via the link below. EDP66: Double Race Recap - Eoin's 5000m / Ryan's HBF / Xiamen Diamond League / LA Track Festival + more

🇧🇪 Eoin gives a full on-the-ground recap from the IFAM meet in Brussels after running a 14:15 track PB over 5000m in one of Europe’s famously stacked midnight races. We discuss the chaos of heat allocations, racing at midnight, navigating massive fields and what it’s actually like trying to race hard in the middle of a European heatwave. 🇦🇺 Back home in Perth, Ryan breaks down his 4th place finish at the HBF Run 12k in 38:21 after throwing himself into the race from the gun in pursuit of the win. We discuss race tactics, tunnel surges, weaving through thousands of runners, heart rate paranoia, nitrate timing and why racing on feel might still trump all the sports science. Before we started, we also shared our thoughts and condolences to the friends and family of the runner who tragically lost their life at HBF Run yesterday. Incredibly sad news. 🇨🇳 Over in China, we unpack another huge Diamond League: • Abby Caldwell wins again in the women’s 1500m • Jess Hull, Claudia Hollingsworth and Sarah Billings continue the Commonwealth Games selection headache • Sub-13 performances continue in brutal heat and humidity • Andreas Almgren records a DNF after his huge 3k opener 🇺🇸 At Sound Running LA Track Fest: • Habtom Samuel runs 12:57 to break the Eritrean record • Jackson Sharp moves to 6th on the Australian all-time list with 13:05 • Parker Valby returns from injury with a 14:49 win • We discuss the insane current depth in global distance running As always we dive into the races, the stories behind them and everything else going on in the running world. 🎧 Listen now on Spotify & Apple Podcasts 📲 Follow us on Instagram: @easydoublepod 📩 Email: easydoublepod@gmail.com [easydoublepod@gmail.com] For early release, no adverts & plenty of bonus content, join us at Patreon https://www.patreon.com/c/EasyDouble [https://www.patreon.com/c/EasyDouble]

The Science Behind Getting Fitter & Faster: LT1, LT2 & Blood Lactate Explained | ft. Zander Mostert

This week on the Easy Double Podcast we’re joined by coach and sports scientist Zander Mostert for one of our most educational episodes yet. We break down the science behind endurance performance and unpack the concepts runners hear all the time — but often don’t fully understand — including blood lactate, threshold training, LT1, LT2, Zone 2, aerobic development and how elite athletes actually use these metrics in training. Using Ryan’s recent lactate test as a real-world example, Zander explains: * What lactate actually is * The difference between LT1 and LT2 * Why threshold training is so effective * How to know if your easy runs are truly easy * Common misconceptions around “zones” and heart rate training * Why most runners probably train too hard too often * How lactate testing can be used to individualise training * The relationship between volume, thresholds and race performance Whether you’re chasing a marathon PB, trying to better understand your own training, or simply curious about the physiology behind endurance performance, this episode is packed with practical insight. We also discuss how elite runners structure threshold sessions, why building your aerobic system is so important, and how training should evolve depending on experience level and goals. Let us know what you think of this style of episode — and if there are any other deep-dive topics you’d like us to explore in future. There are 3 guarantees in life: death, taxes and banging weekly Easy Double shows. Phil Sesemann announced an injury that results in Ellis Cross being called up to the GB Team for the European Athletics Champs later this summer. The Diamond League kicks off this weekend in Shanghai, China with a lot of Aussies and East Africans making for some pretty stacked fields. 👊In this week's Double Trouble we discuss the art of self sabotage and why runners do a certain thing knowing it will have a negative impact on results.
