Later in the trip, Jay stayed in Cloudcroft, in a safari-style tent overlooking the Lincoln National Forest with views stretching toward Alamogordo. The stop also included a memorable meal at a local restaurant where the walls are covered in signed dollar bills. Saturday’s adventure featured a hike along the Old Cloudcroft Highway Trail, which still includes remnants of the historic railroad that once connected Cloudcroft and Alamogordo. The trip then wrapped up at White Sands National Park, where miles of bright white gypsum dunes created a surreal, snow-like desert landscape.
