Maine Points: Brain Awareness Month

Danny speaks with Jill Carney , Director of Public Policy for Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter. June is Brain Awareness Month * Know the warning signs of dementia and speak to your family or a health care provider if you notice something is off in yourself or a loved one.  * Advantages of early diagnosis: treatment options, clinical trials, more time to plan for the future and for caregivers to access education and support.  * Take steps to promote brain health - if you are worried about dementia, there are lifestyle interventions -- eating right, exercising -- that can reduce your risk. It's never too early or too late.  We also discuss The Alzheimer's Screening and Prevention Act (ASAP Act) - bipartisan legislation led by Senator Collins. The legislation would pave the way for an early screening test for Alzheimer's, allowing us to detect and intervene before symptoms occur. This is transformational legislation that would improve the standard of care for Alzheimer's, bringing it in line with how we detect and treat other major diseases, like cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.  Get Involved >>> https://alzimpact.org/ [https://alzimpact.org/] Learn More On Maine Chapter: https://www.alz.org/maine [https://www.alz.org/maine] The Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900) is a free service offering support for people living with dementia, caregivers, families and the public.
