204 episodiosIn last year's episode about Dance Fever, we came across an artifact that deserved much closer inspection -- and that was The Dance Fever Christmas Special. It was so craptacular that we promised our listeners that we'd give this gem its own episode come holiday time. AND THAT TIME IS NOW!!! (cue angels singing to a disco beat!). Much of our research involved Googling "worst Christmas special ever;" and guess what? Dance Fever had some stiff competition! Just picture Mr. T, Webster, C3PO and David Copperfield all vying for the top spot with Deney Terrio. It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. And we'll tell you all about it while listening to the disco version of The Little Drummer Boy. Fifty years ago GenX experienced its first taste of "appointment tv" when Tuesday nights meant "Happy Days." Join as we revisit "These Happy Days Are Yours and Mine." In this all-new introduction, we chat about what we've lost in the era of streaming television and the sense of unity and belonging created by watching the same shows at the same time. Happy Days was one of the most iconic and beloved shows of our generation, and one that grew up right alongside us. Join us as we share why this show was so important to the three of us, dive into the characters who felt like friends and family, share fun facts about the show and its stars, talk favorite episodes and spinoffs, and debate Joanie’s hairstyle. Which star’s family member has literally saved millions of lives? Which episode ended Carolyn’s childhood? And which host almost made her husband recite Chachi’s wedding vows? Join us for this encore presentation of our ode to the handwritten letter and you'll get an all new intro conversation about an important anniversary: Hello Kitty just turned 50 years old. 😮 Not even kidding! And that little Gen X icon has a surprising connection to the letters of our youth. We might also digress into a rant about the state of modern day Christmas cards. Heads up: we have OPINIONS. Maybe that's proof of how vital letterwriting was to our Gen X experience; before email and texting there was only one way to keep in touch with our important people that didn't involve long-distance charges (which your dad said was "highway robbery!") -- we put pen to paper and poured our hearts out in ways we would never do via text. Grandparents, pen pals, camp friends, and boyfriends/girlfriends, our relationships to all of them were nurtured and deepened by the handwritten word. Join us for our stories, your stories, and lots of hilarious readings of pubescent yearning and shenanigans. We’re celebrating our 200th EPISODE by revisiting all the traumas from the TV movies of our GenX youth (naturally). But before we get to our meaty conversation devoted to this very special art form that was low on budget but high on love triangles, deadly diseases, dying parents, killer bees, and so, so many hostages, we’re bringing you an all NEW opening conversation where we contemplate (yet again) how one of the most comforting shows of our youth — Little House on The Prairie — was also one of the most traumatic. What were Melissa Gilbert’s most troubling episodes? Oh, don’t worry, we asked her! (You’ll be nodding your head in agreement — count on it.) And then we’re acknowledging our 200th episode milestone … with a lot of disbelief and, of course, gratitude.
