Lack of Compassion You stop seeing the offender through the eyes of mercy. •No desire for their restoration. •No empathy for their struggles. •Treating them only according to their offense (Ephesians 4:32) 8. Emotional Agitation When They Are Mentioned Their name immediately stirs anger, pain, or irritation. This often reveals that healing has not yet taken place (Acts 23:12-13). 9. The wound of bitterness is kept alive in the heart. A person struggling with unforgiveness may show: 1. Constantly remembering or rehearsing the offense. You keep replaying what the person did in your mind; you revisit the pain often; you mentally argue with the person repeatedly and the wound stays fresh even after a long time (1 Corinthians 13:5). 2. Bitterness in the Heart Bitterness is one of the strongest fruits of unforgiveness. Harsh feelings rise whenever the person is mentioned; you feel inward anger or resentment and your spirit becomes hardened toward them (Hebrews 12:15).
