He serves as the Executive Director of the Center for Sex Education (CSE) and founded the Sex Ed Lecture Series during the COVID-19 pandemic to support ongoing professional development among educators. Taverner is also the editor-in-chief of the "American Journal of Sexuality Education," further highlighting his commitment to academic discourse and practical applications in the field. Bill grew up in Staten Island, New York, where he was actively involved in community theatre, fostering his skills in communication and engagement. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the State University of New York at Albany and a Master of Arts in Human Sexuality from New York University. His education also included a transformative international studies program in Copenhagen, Denmark. Professionally, Taverner has authored and edited over 85 publications, including teaching manuals, curricula, and scholarly articles. His dedication to the field has earned him numerous accolades, such as the AASECT Book Award for "Teaching Safer Sex, 3rd Edition," and the Schiller Prize for best workshop using interactive strategies. He's also been recognized as the AASECT Sexuality Educator of the Year and received the Social Justice Award from the Academy for Adolescent Health. Bill's career is marked by a deep commitment to enhancing and advocating for comprehensive sex education. He uses his platform to influence policies, educate upcoming generations, and promote informed discussions on sexual health and relationships.
