34. Having The Courage to Slow Down

I so badly wanted my students to achieve mastery and learn everything and do well on their end of year tests. This is a strength of mine, and I'm sure is one of yours too. Unfortunately, I overused this strenght on occasion, and tried moving my students a little faster than they were ready. Plowing through is what felt safer. Was I a bad teacher. No. Could there have been a different, and maybe even better way? Sure. Accessing that better way starts by slowing down. Slowing down can feel scary. Like, terrifying. This is when we have to train ourselves to intentionally stop, breathe in, and gain awareness of what stories our brain is telling us. Slowing down might bring up uncomfortable emotions. Just know it is actually the way forward in a lasting sustainable way. Talk soon! camillescow17@gmail.com

33. Stress and Trauma Part 2: Too Little for Too Long

The beginning of the year starts out so great. New students, fresh eyes, new problems, stronger because of the year before, then it's the end of the year and the rock you've been carrying now seems so heavy! It wasn't this hard before!!! The reason? You haven't given yourself the proper rest, if any. Sure, you've taken a personal day in the last 10 years Sure, you got 8 hours of sleep last night, sure you had your kale drink this morning. But.... .... have you given yourself a break from your inner critic? This episode shares expertise from Dr. Aimie Apigian, as well as wisdom from Kristin Neff. This episode could provide you the awareness necessary to make a small shift that could change everything for you. Remember: You are doing better than you think you are!
