Descripción

Friend = one attached to another by affection or esteem. Friendship = the state of being friends. (Merriam-Webster, 2026). Throughout our lives, we make friends and lose friends, strengthen friendships and make new connections. But what happens when our priorities change? And add on top of that a friendship recession? According to the American Perspectives Survey, 12% of U.S. adults reported having no close friends, quadrupling since 1990 (Harvard Kennedy School, 2025). We may not have all the answers as to why or how to navigate the changing waters of friendship, but we do have stories to tell about our own (im)perfect journey of making and keeping friends. Ep 49: Unlearning The Roots of Generational Silence And Its Impacts on the Next Generation

Generational silence impacts relationships at any level. Silence is often a powerful message, often representing the passing down of unresolved pain , trauma, and unaddressed emotions that shape the way that we form and maintain relationships, choose to love, and communicate with individuals our entire lives. Whether it is motivated by fear, avoidance, or cultural expectations - understanding why and how to break an endless cycle of silence can often be the answer to ensuring we build safe, stable, and healthy relationships. In this episode, we briefly highlight key moments we've observed throughout our life. On the otherhand, positive representation can shift public opinion forthe better and create greater understanding and appreciation between cultures and communities.” (Action for Children, 2024). When you see someone like you, whether on the screen or in a classroom, you feel an increased sense of confidence and belonging. Seeing just how much the growth of Hmong representation in the US has flourished warms our hearts and gets us excited for a future where the faces in our media and professional spaces truly represent everyday people.
