Think Twice Show
Hedonism has a bad reputation, but maybe it's just misunderstood as a moral philosophy. At its core, it judges actions based on how much they maximise pleasure and minimise pain. The more they do this, the better they are. So in reality, you might be more of a Hedonist than you think. After all, your brain is hardwired to seek pleasure in it's many forms. Today we assess Hedonism in both an ancient Greek context and in the modern era. First we question if theoretical hedonism is egoistic. Tef argues that it is given it focusses on the pleasure of the individual, relegating the wellbeing of the collective. Beno argues that Hedonism isn't egoistic since humans are social creatures, so enhancing one's own pleasure always involves the pleasure of others. In the modern era, we all have access to a constant stream of news stories depicting incredible human suffering all over the world. In segment two, we ask if it is immoral to seek your own pleasure while others suffer so much. In this week's dilemma, we have 5 years to live. What kind of life would you lead for the time you have remaining? Enjoy ❤️
