In this episode, we share clips from a 2011 interview we recorded at his Manhattan apartment, where Chip reflected on his early life, many songs he wrote for others, his solo songs and album Yonkers, New York, and the experiences that shaped his remarkable career. This podcast is from our archive, and these clips from Chip's interview were originally broadcast on 'In Search of a Song', hosted by Jason Wilber (John Prine's guitarist). TGE Episode #342 - Terry Kok

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2451536/fan_mail/new] Host Rich Reardin talks with bassist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and bio-scientific consultant, Terry Kok. Today I’m talking with someone who’s been quietly shaping a whole corner of Midwestern counterculture for decades. Terry Kok is a bassist, a composer, and a builder of worlds — literally. He helped pioneer Lothlorien, an off-the-grid and self-sustaining community and campground that became a gathering place for music, art, and the kind of conversations you can only have under open sky. He also ran The Eye, his self-described hippie store, where half the magic was the merchandise and the other half was Terry himself. He served as a consultant on NASA’s Biosphere work and has spent much of his life advancing sustainable living — from renewable energy and resilient food systems to community based arts initiatives and peaceful, cooperative communal projects and politics. These days he lives on Fairie Hill, still hosting concerts, still creating spaces where people can come together and learn something — about making music, sustainable community, and artistic expression. Terry’s one of those rare people who didn’t just dream a different way of living; he actually built it.
