VIA: Love & Evolution Podcast
April is SAAM - Sexual Assault Awareness Month Episode 53 of Via Love and Evolution brings forward a conversation that is heavy but deeply relevant to the current state of the world. In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Sarah and Katrina hold space for a topic that deserves more truth, tenderness, and real awareness. This past week, Sarah fulfilled one of her heartfelt goals by completing training to become a volunteer sexual assault advocate. She shares what the experience was like, including the staggering realities and statistics surrounding the prevalence of sexual abuse and sexual violence and what it means to be educated, prepared, and willing to show up. Katrina explores the subject through her own lens as a survivor, speaking to the layered, complex nature of trauma and the long echoes it can leave behind. Together, we reflect on what “showing up” actually looks like how to respond as a safe person, how to practice active listening, how to honor someone’s autonomy and agency, and how to support survivors without centering ourselves. We also discuss how to care for your own nervous system while holding space for others. This episode is rooted in awareness not as a passive concept, but as a conscious, active practice. A frequency of compassion, presence, and proactive peace. While the subject matter is intense, this conversation is ultimately filled with gratitude for the healing, courage, and safety it takes to speak about sexual violence with honesty and care.
