Adam's Daily Bread
This is part of a year long reading of the Bible chronologically in a harmonized format. Psalms 6:1-10 - David pleads for God's mercy amid physical and soul-deep anguish, asking not to be rebuked in anger. - He expresses confidence that the Lord has heard his weeping and will shame his enemies. Psalms 8:1 - 10:18 - Psalm 8 praises God's majestic name displayed in creation, marveling at humanity's honored yet humble role under divine care. - Psalms 9-10 thank God for defending the oppressed against wicked foes while lamenting their temporary prosperity and calling for justice. Matthew 26:30 - After the Passover meal, Jesus and his disciples sing a hymn together. - They depart for the Mount of Olives. Matthew 26:36-46 - In Gethsemane, Jesus feels overwhelming sorrow and prays alone for the cup of suffering to pass, submitting to the Father's will. - He returns three times to find the disciples sleeping and urges them to watch and pray as betrayal nears. Mark 14:26 - Following the supper, Jesus and the disciples sing a hymn. - They go out to the Mount of Olives. Mark 14:32-42 - At Gethsemane, Jesus takes Peter, James, and John, expresses deep distress, and prays for the hour to pass if possible. - He finds them sleeping repeatedly, reaffirms submission to God's will, and announces the betrayer's arrival.
