In Week 7 of Hosea: A Living Sermon of God’s Love, we look at Hosea 6:1-6 and 7:8-12 to see the dangers of living back and forth with God. Israel wanted the blessings of restoration without the surrender of repentance, but God exposes the danger of partial dedication, manipulated truth, and spiritual instability. When commitment is divided, faithfulness is weakened. When truth is handled carelessly, obedience becomes negotiable. And when our walk with Christ becomes unstable, we can miss the very work He is calling us into. This sermon calls us away from wavering faith and into steady, wholehearted devotion to the Lord.

Israel’s wandering heart had become a wayward life, contaminating homes, leaders, and generations. But Hosea reminds us that human solutions cannot fix spiritual problems. God’s correction is not random cruelty—it is a merciful warning meant to expose sin, awaken repentance, and call His people back to Him.

The evidence is clear: a lack of faithfulness, kindness, knowledge of God, faithful leadership, and a growing love for corruption. Yet even in this courtroom scene, God’s desire is not only to expose sin but to call His people back to truth, repentance, and covenant faithfulness. Court is in session, and Hosea reminds us that God gives pardon from past sin and power over present sin.

Hosea’s pursuit of Gomer gives us a picture of the way God pursues His people with covenant faithfulness. God’s love does not excuse sin or ignore brokenness, but it does move toward the rebel with grace, redemption, and restoration. In this message, “The Pursuit,” we are challenged to consider what it means to receive God’s faithful love and then reflect that same love toward others. God’s love is demanding, but it leads us back to repair, restoration, and hope in Him.

Because we have been raised with Christ, the old life can no longer define our desires, our words, our relationships, or our homes. This message calls us to put sin to death, put on the character of Christ, and let His lordship reshape even the hidden places of our lives. The old man has to die, the new life has to be worn, and the home has to come under Christ—because Christ is the mark.
