Going After the One

Why do people wander from faith, community, and the life God intends for them? Ride Herd

Wandering comes naturally, to cattle, sheep, and people. In this message from James 5:19-20, we're reminded that spiritual drifting is a reality for all of us. Sometimes we get distracted by good things instead of the best things. Sometimes we wander because of fear, pride, shame, or simply losing sight of the path God has set before us. Like livestock grazing toward whatever catches their attention, we can find ourselves far from where we intended to be. But God doesn't give up on wandering people. He doesn't settle for 99 out of 100. He pursues every person who has drifted, and He calls His people to do the same. This message challenges us to see the church as more than a place for fellowship and community. We are called to be part of God's search-and-rescue mission. We help those who have wandered return to the truth, the hope, and the life found in Christ. When someone is lovingly restored, the impact reaches far beyond a single moment. Lives are redirected, futures are changed, and people are brought back onto the path that leads to life. The Snarky Prophet and the God Who Still Listens

What makes prayer powerful? In this episode of Conversations in the Barn, we take a look at James 5 and the surprising example James uses to teach us about effective prayer: Elijah. Elijah called down fire from heaven, prayed for drought, and boldly confronted hundreds of false prophets. But James points us to something even more important than Elijah's accomplishments. Elijah was human, just like we are. The Secret to Powerful Prayer Isn't Perfection

What if powerful prayer isn't reserved for spiritual superheroes? In this message from James 5, we take a closer look at the life of Elijah—a man Scripture says was just like us. He experienced fear, weakness, and failure, yet God used his prayers in extraordinary ways. His effectiveness didn't come from perfection; it came from living in alignment with God's heart and purposes. Overcoming Spiritual Procrastination

What are the “frogs” you’ve learned to live with? In this message from Exodus 8, we look at one of the strangest responses in Scripture. When Pharaoh is given the chance to be free from the plague of frogs covering Egypt, he tells Moses, “Tomorrow.” Why wait one more day? That question reveals something deep about the human heart. Like Pharaoh, we often delay the very changes God is calling us to make. We postpone forgiveness, obedience, healing, discipline, repentance, and joy, convincing ourselves there will always be a better time later. But delayed obedience slowly hardens the heart. The longer we tolerate the “frogs” in our lives, the more normal they become. This message is a challenge to stop putting off what God is calling you to do today. Identify the areas you’ve been avoiding, take the first faithful step, and remember: this is the day the Lord has made.
