episode LegisGator Expands Into Multi-Day Louisiana Leadership Event Focused on Policy and Growth cover

Beskrivelse

Louisiana leaders are expanding Legislator into a larger, multi-day event focused on policy, economic growth, and the state's future. The longtime Southwest Louisiana gathering, known for honoring lawmakers who move business priorities forward, will now include new leadership and policy discussions. The expanded event runs Aug. 19-21. Day one brings the LABI Policy Forum, where leaders will discuss insurance reform, workforce development, education pathways, energy policy, and legislation from the 2026 session. Day two features the Future Louisiana Conference: Ideas for Leadership, bringing in national speakers and experts to share ideas on economic growth, education, workforce development, and community redevelopment. The traditional Legislator event remains the anchor on the final day, with continued focus on Southwest Louisiana growth, energy investment, and long-term economic strategy. Organizers say the goal is simple: bring business leaders, lawmakers, and policy experts together to create stronger conversations about Louisiana’s future.

Louisiana AI Growth Sparks Debate Over Data Centers and Competition With China

Doug Kelly of the American Edge Project says the U.S. is in a close race with China for AI leadership and argues that building more data centers, power infrastructure, and talent pipelines is critical to staying competitive. He pushed back on concerns about data centers driving up electric bills or draining water supplies, saying many facilities use efficient cooling systems and can help fund needed grid upgrades. Kelly also highlighted AI's potential to improve healthcare, education, and small business growth. He warned that a patchwork of state AI regulations could slow American innovation and called for a national strategy to help the U.S. maintain an edge over China in the rapidly growing AI sector.

Louisiana Legislative Session 2026: Senator Franklin Foil Highlights Key Wins for Drivers, Veterans, and Infrastructure

State Sen. Franklin Foil joined Talk 107.3 to discuss the 2026 legislative session and several bills he helped pass. He highlighted a new law that allows Louisiana to conduct its own environmental impact studies on major transportation projects, which he says could speed up projects like the proposed Mississippi River bridge. Foil also pushed a consumer protection measure requiring towing companies that charge weekend storage fees to provide access to vehicles on weekends. He discussed a proposed constitutional amendment that would allow surviving spouses of disabled veterans to keep a property tax exemption after moving. Foil also shared an update on the LSU Lakes project, saying lawmakers secured the final $2 million needed to complete the restoration effort. Looking ahead, he expects state finances and tax policy to be major topics during next year's fiscal session.
