Higher fuel costs are forcing airlines to trim service, including a temporary route suspension at Pittsburgh International Airport

American Airlines will suspend its daily nonstop service between Pittsburgh and Los Angeles from August 5th through October 4th as airlines grapple with rising fuel costs. The route was launched in April of last year, marking American's first daily nonstop service between Pittsburgh and Los Angeles since 2017. Travelers will still have options during the suspension. Pittsburgh International Airport officials confirmed to KDKA Radio that Breeze Airways currently offers nonstop service on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, while United Airlines also provides nonstop flights to Los Angeles.

A man was arrested after stabbing a Lyft driver in the neck, police say.

A man was arrested after stabbing a Lyft driver in the neck, police say. Around 11 PM Sunday, police were dispatched to I-79 near the Neville Island exit for a report of an assault. There... they found a driver with a laceration wound to the neck. The suspect in the stabbing, 31-year-old Saul Baxin, fled the scene on foot towards Coraopolis rd where he was hit by a car. Baxin has been arrested with aggravated assault in connection with the stabbing. The Lyft driver was last said to be in stable condition.

The Allegheny County Sheriff is suing county council over term limits.

Allegheny County Sheriff Kevin Kraus going to court to fight efforts to impose term limits on himself and other County officials. He's filed a complaint in Common Pleas Court over an effort to put term limits on the ballot this fall as a referendum question through a change to Allegheny County's Home Rule Charter. Kraus' complaint says the state Constitution deliberately removed term limits for the Sheriff back in 1945. The lawsuit argues the County is overstepping its home rule powers. The referendum question would also cap the County Executive...Council members...the DA..Treasurer and Controller to a maximum of three terms.

The Pittsburgh Public Schools voted to adopt the plan that will close nine schools.

The Pittsburgh Public Schools voted to adopt the plan that will close nine schools. The vote was nine to two. City Controller Rachael Heisler issued a statement saying the plan will not address the district's long-term financial challenges in a meaningful way. She says adopting the Future Ready Plan means the district's fund balance will go negative one year later than it otherwise would have.

In today's daily update, the team outlines tremors, gasping, and seizures of the 2nd eaglet known as GH3, ending the update with "GH3 ceases to breathe". Sunday morning around 10:30AM, an eaglet known as GH4 was reported dead by the Glen Hazel Eagle cam team and the Tamarack Wildlife Center. GH3 and the mother started exhibiting signs of illness after the first eaglet died but wildlife officials are unable to step in without state and federal approval because of the bird's protected status.
