003. Kurt Dahmen

On this episode of the #PullmanProud Podcast, I sit down with Kurt Dahmen, longtime resident of the Palouse and longtime employee of the City of Pullman. He’s the new"ish" Director of Parks and Facilities but, even before I was on city council, I, like many others, worked fairly closely with him when he was the city’s recreation manager, a role where he got a lot of face time with parents and families and, yes, even weirdo Little League Baseball coaches like me. I enjoyed my conversation with Kurt. We talked about recent upgrades to the parks, where that money came from, and, yes, I did challenge him on some bond-financing philosophy that I have. In full disclosure, I served one term on Pullman City Council. I got to know Nathan while I served and saw where his heart and passions were. I appreciated his recognition of his own shortcomings, something I quite frankly struggle with. I consider him a good friend. I talk to him about why he ran, why he continues to run, and what each councilmember can do to better connect with residents.
