SkeptiQuartz #05: Mucoid Plaque
In which I discuss the mythical medicine for "mucoid plaque" Transcript: Welcome to SkeptiQuartz. I’m your host Ari, here to debunk any pseudoscience I come across. Today, we’ll be debunking a particular kind of colon cleansing solution, which is supposed to remove a mythical substance known as "mucoid plaque". The way this "medication" works is by acting as a sponge, absorbing the contents of your bowels, and being excreted as a long, rubbery snake, thereby appearing to remove this "mucoid plaque". It has no function at all other than to suck money out of the wallets of gullible consumers with a large amount of disposable income. If you have any refutations, shoot me a message at qsysmine.tk/feedback.
SkeptiQuartz #04: Organic Food
A quick debunking of organic food; There is a video version available: http://youtu.be/issS3oHR4aI; Transcript: Hello, this is Ari here with episode 4 of SkeptiQuartz, my skeptical podcast. Today, we will be debunking organic food. Many people believe that organic food is healthier than conventional food, but this is simply not true. The food is identical, organics are just a more expensive and less fulfilling way to make the same food. Another common belief is that organic food is helping the environment. This is simply untrue. To fit the USDA's organic requirements, many farmers have to create new farmland, which means more deforestation. If you have any disputes with my conclusions, contact me at qsysmine.tk/feedback.
SkeptiQuartz #03: Aromatherapy
A quick debunking of aromatherapy. TRANSCRIPT: Hello, I am Ari from Quartz, and welcome to episode 3 the SkeptiQuartz podcast. Today, we are going to debunk aromatherapy. Aromatherapy, according to my favorite source, Wikipedia, is QUOT: a form of alternative medicine that uses volatile plant materials, known as essential oils, and other aromatic compounds for the purpose of altering a person's mind, mood, cognitive function or health. END QUOT! Many aromatherapists say that aromatherapy can have a long term stress reduction, but there is little evidence to back up this claim. Some aromatherapists go far enough as to say that aromatherapy cures cancer, but, according to the American Cancer Society, QUOT: Available scientific evidence does not support claims that aromatherapy is effective in preventing or treating cancer, but its use may enhance quality of life. END QUOT! If you have any disputes with my conclusions, contact me at qsysmine.tk/feedback.
