Tony Alamo with Tony Alamo World Wide Ministries Sowing the Seed: Tony Alamo on the Holy Spirit, Evangelism, and God’s Life Living Through Believers Ep185 How To Have Gods Life Living In You Part 83 Tony Alamo Introduces Program 185 In this archival program, identified as program 185 and part 83 of How to Have God’s Life Living in You, Tony Alamo opens by offering free copies of the program, Bibles, literature, and other ministry materials. He emphasizes that because God gave salvation freely, he wants the ministry’s materials to go out freely as well. Alamo then turns toward prayer and begins teaching about salvation, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, spiritual power, and the need for believers to continue Christ’s work on earth. Salvation, the Holy Spirit, and Spiritual Power Alamo teaches that being born again brings the presence of the Lord into a person, but he distinguishes that from the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which he says gives believers power for ministry. He discusses the disciples after Christ’s resurrection, including Thomas’s doubt and Jesus appearing to them in a locked room. Alamo says Jesus breathed the Holy Spirit into them, but later instructed them to wait in Jerusalem until they received greater power through the Holy Spirit. In Alamo’s view, that power is necessary for preaching, teaching, prophesying, enduring persecution, and continuing Christ’s incarnation through believers. Preaching the Word as Sowing Seed The central image of the sermon is sowing seed. Alamo compares the Word of God to seed that must not merely be eaten or kept for oneself, but planted in others through preaching and literature distribution. He argues that prayer is important, but that people are saved by hearing the Word preached in the Spirit. He says Christians who only receive messages but never share them are like people who eat seed instead of planting it, leaving no harvest. For Alamo, the harvest means souls won for Christ, and he repeatedly urges listeners to sow the Word into the world. Rejecting “Once Saved, Always Saved” Alamo strongly rejects the idea that believers cannot fall away after salvation. He recounts a conversation with a local judge who, according to Alamo, believed Jesus had done all the work and that Christians did not need to labor in ministry. Alamo presents this as false doctrine, connecting it with what he calls a Baptist teaching of “once saved, always saved.” He argues that the Bible teaches believers will be judged by their works and that refusing to sow the seed of God’s Word leaves a person spiritually endangered. Prayer for Anointing, Salvation, and Open Doors Alamo then leads a long prayer asking God to anoint the broadcast, save souls, strengthen churches, and help listeners receive and sow the Word of God. He prays that believers will not fall away and that Satan will be bound through the preaching of the Word. He also prays for President Bush, the administration, people in Catholicism, Buddhism, Islam, Shintoism, and other religions, as well as the people of Israel and the peace of Jerusalem. He teaches that Gentile believers become “spiritual Jews” through accepting Christ and says God promises salvation, healing, and prosperity for those who receive and obey the Word. Letter from Ghana: Asking for Teaching and Literature The first listener letter comes from Ghana, Africa, from a man named Gilbert who says he was deeply touched after reading Alamo’s “Mass Suicide” literature and gave his life to Christ. He asks for teachings, a study Bible, tracts, and literature about Roman religion. Alamo responds by warning against study Bibles and theological seminaries, which he says often contain heresy or weaken faith. He offers to send a King James Bible and literature, while encouraging Gilbert to study with him through the broadcast and continue distributing literature. Letter from New York: Reaching Jewish Friends The next letter comes from Mattydale, New York, from Catherine, who says she works at a hospital and has Jewish friends, especially doctors, with whom she wants to share The Messiah. She asks if she can purchase several copies of the book and other ministry materials, as well as ministry T-shirts. Alamo insists that the books and materials are free, tells the ministry to send her a large supply of The Messiah, and praises her desire to share the literature with patients and employees. He uses the letter as another example of someone eating the seed and then sowing it to others. Letter from Nigeria: Literature Distribution and Church Planting A major letter comes from Pastor Henry in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, who says Alamo’s literature has brought testimonies of salvation, restoration, and blessing in Nigeria. He says he learned about Alamo through Brother Doug online and believes he was born to serve under Alamo’s ministry. Pastor Henry describes himself as a church planter and evangelist who has planted several churches since 1988 and wants to establish literature distribution centers across Nigeria. He asks to connect his church work officially with Alamo’s ministry. Alamo responds warmly, saying Pastor Henry has his blessing and offering whatever ministry resources are available. The Love of Christ as Rushing Waters Near the end, Alamo and Sharon return to the teaching from 2 Corinthians 5:14–15, emphasizing that the love of Christ constrains believers so they should no longer live for themselves but for the one who died and rose again. Alamo interprets this love as like “rushing waters” flowing from God’s throne and compelling believers to consecrate themselves to God. He says believers must live in the Spirit, manifest Christ’s love, lift one another up, and continue sowing the Word rather than living for themselves. Persecution Claims, Closing Prayer, and Final Invitation Alamo also discusses what he describes as persecution against his Los Angeles church, saying officials came to the property with bulletproof vests while the ministry had no weapons. He asks listeners to pray for the situation, then has Sharon give contact information for requesting program 185. Alamo closes by inviting listeners to be saved through a salvation prayer, asking Jesus to forgive sins, enter the heart, wash sins away through His blood, and save the soul. He tells new believers to learn the Word, request literature, lead others to the broadcasts, and help spread the “soul-winning” messages.
