Treating You
Welcome to our latest episode of the podcast where we delve into the fascinating and often misunderstood world of stroke care. We're joined today by two distinguished specialists from the Royal London Hospital, Dr Paul Bhogal and Dr Oliver Spooner. Dr Bhogal is a consultant interventional and diagnostic neuroradiologist, who made headlines in September 2020 for performing the world's first aneurysm surgery whilst the patient was awake. Dr Spooner is a consultant stroke physician and mechanical thrombectomy lead for stroke medicine. Together, they bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the table. In this episode, we explore some of the myths and misconceptions around stroke care. We discuss why strokes can happen to anyone, not just elderly and unhealthy people, and what we can all do to reduce our risk of having a stroke. We also look at why some people's brains are better protected against the worst effects of a stroke than others. We wrap up our conversation with a discussion about life after a serious stroke, which can often be life-changing for both the patient and their loved ones. Dr Bhogal and Dr Spooner share their insights on how families can support stroke survivors without infantilising them, and help them to rebuild their lives in the best way possible. Join us for this enlightening and thought-provoking conversation with two leading experts in the field of stroke care.
