Voices Not Victims
Rashonda Wilson is the founder of I'm A Survivor, Inc. As a woman of the African Diaspora ("Women of Color") and a survivor of sexual assault, she is passionate about healing women of color, who are survivors of sexual violence and communities affected by it. Accordingly, Ms. Wilson found a need to advocate for women of color, who are survivors of sexual violence as well as spreading awareness about sexual violence in the Detroit Metropolitan Area. I'm A Survivor, Inc. envisions the world healed from generational trauma that continues to haunt marginalized communities and women of color. Therefore, I'm A Survivor, Inc. strives to help women of color have a voice; to reshape systems or institutions that oppress, marginalize, and objectify women of color; and to descretate the rape culture. In order to achieve this vision, I'm A Survivor, Inc. 1) encourages healing via support group services, Bible study, and indigenous spiritual healing methods; 2) empowers women of color to boldly share their stories in order to debunk stereotypes that women of color cannot get raped; and 3) educates communities in the Detroit Metropolitan Area on sexual violence and its effects on women of color, the Black family, and the inner city community in an effort to stop blaming rape on woman of color and encourage the conversation of sexual violence in the Black family.
