Heart Rate Variability or HRV is a well-known measure outside sport for a long time. However in the past, it required ECG to find HRV. In the recent times, it has become more accessible because of wearables like those from Garmin, Whoop, Apple, Oura etc., HRV as a metric is super useful for runners, as it is linked to parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). PNS is responsible for rest and recovery. In this episode we explore HRV * What is HRV? * What does it mean for runners? * How is it different from resting HR? * How does one measure it? * How can we use it in training? Here are some HRV related resources, that we've found useful.
