ArtZany! Radio for the Imagination! Cecelia Condit and Tricia Streitz, 5-1-26

Today in the ArtZany Radio studio Paula Granquist welcomes two amazing local artists to the show to highlight new projects. First, filmmaker Cecelia Condit will discuss the premiere of two recent works: Monster in Me and A Parable of Now at the Walker Art Center. Next, Tricia Streitz from WildWood of Nerstrand will talk about this new gathering space and preview the May Market event featuring 40 vendors both in and outside, live outdoor music, delicious eats, bevs, treats and more!  The Monster in Me: The Video Work of Cecelia Condit Thursday, 7 May 2026 at 7 pm  Walker Cinema Walker Art Center, 725 Vineland Place, Minneapolis, MN  $15; $12 Walker members, seniors, and students https://www.walkerart.org/whats-on/monster-in-me-the-video-work-of-cecelia-condit/ [https://www.walkerart.org/whats-on/monster-in-me-the-video-work-of-cecelia-condit/] Over the course of four decades, artist Cecelia Condit’s video work has dissected the psychologies of the feminine, the suburban, and the natural worlds. Her 1983 work Possibly in Michigan—brought to new audiences in recent years by its vast recirculation on social media—reminds us of the dark possibilities within the exterior and interior worlds of women; its resurgence speaks to the perpetual cycles of violence women continue to experience. This selection of Condit’s work traces ideas the artist has explored throughout her career and includes a premiere of two recent works: Monster in Me and A Parable of Now. A conversation with Cecelia Condit and Assistant Curator Patricia Ledesma Villon follows the screening. WildWood of Nerstrand 315 Main Street, Nerstrand, MN MAY MARKET Saturday,May 9 | 9am-1pm Join us for another delightfully spring May Market! Photo Exhibit: Minnesota Summer Birds Photo Exhibit: May 18 - June 2 Presentation: Wednesday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m.  Most Northfielders are familiar with the birds one commonly sees in our neighborhoods, such as robins, crows, and starlings, or birds that come to our feeders, such as nuthatches, chickadees, and Downy Woodpeckers. But there are many other birds that nest in the area that are rarely seen by most people. Gerry Hoekstra will offer a talk on Minnesota’s summer birds, using his own photographs as illustrations and focusing especially on the birds most of us rarely, if ever, see. Gerald Hoekstra is a resident of Northfield. Before retiring to a life of birding and photography, he was Professor of Music at St. Olaf College. As a photographer, he focuses primarily on wildlife, especially birds and insects, but also photographs landscapes and architecture. Hoekstra has birded and photographed wildlife internationally, as well as throughout the U.S. and Canada.  His photographs appear in a number of publications and can often be seen on the home page of the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union (moumn.org [http://moumn.org/]).
