Beskrivelse

Army sniper Drew Matthews was told his 13-man team might not come home. Then he returned from Iraq to a family betrayal nobody saw coming. In Part 2 of this raw and unbelievable Beer, Booze & B.S. interview, Minnesota Army veteran Drew “Bullet” Matthews takes Chrissy and Paulie inside the reality of sniper missions, convoy operations, military training, war, grief, religious control and the homecoming nightmare that changed his life. Drew recounts being sent overseas after his sniper section was warned, “I wouldn’t plan to come home.” All 13 members of his section survived—but another soldier Drew knew was killed after being assigned to the mission Drew’s team narrowly avoided. He also describes helping move an approximately 100-truck convoy out of Iraq, riding in an up-armored vehicle with a motorized turret and serving as the commander’s eyes and ears. According to Drew, his truck was the third from the last documented vehicle to leave Iraq during the drawdown, and his unit was involved in one of the final enemy engagements. But surviving Iraq was only part of the story. Drew opens up about growing up inside a controlling church where emotions were dismissed, medication was discouraged and “feelings were a lie.” Then, while serving away from home, Drew learned his mother was dying. By the time he arrived, she was already gone—and his best friend had also died by suicide. Later, Drew returned home to find his belongings packed. The next morning, he was served divorce papers. The devastating family story eventually became even harder to comprehend when his pastor father married Drew’s ex-wife. Drew also talks about sniper ballistics, watching every exit, never sitting with his back to the door, wasting outrageous amounts of .50-caliber ammunition, brutal drill sergeants, a deadly snakebite during basic training, eating Army meals in minutes and the dumb things soldiers do when boredom takes over. And because this is Beer, Booze & B.S., the crew puts three ready-to-serve cocktails to the test: ☕ Ketel One Espresso Martini 🍒 Crown Royal Black Cherry Whiskey Sour 🥃 Bulleit Old Fashioned Which drink wins? Which one tastes like straight whiskey? And can adding Baileys turn the canned espresso martini into a perfect 10? Recorded at Frontier Liquor in Zimmerman, Minnesota, this episode goes from war stories and unimaginable loss to dark humor, whiskey reviews and the kind of unfiltered conversation you will not hear on a polished corporate podcast. AUDIO ONLY: Army Sniper Reveals: How He Beat a Felony Case That Should've Ended Him\ Ep. 22 Pt. 1

Army sniper Drew Matthews was cooking meth at 15 and jailed at 17—before rebuilding his life, joining the Army and deploying to Iraq. Drew Matthews joins Chrissy and Paulie inside Frontier Liquor in Zimmerman, Minnesota, for one of the most intense Beer, Booze & B.S. conversations yet. Before Drew became an Army sniper, father, biker, artist and mentor, he was a child who refused to conform. He began running away when he was young, was riding Greyhound buses alone by 13, drinking and smoking weed shortly after that—and says he was cooking meth by 15. At 17, Drew was arrested with loaded .357 Magnums, serious felony charges and enough evidence to make his future look nearly impossible. He spent approximately nine months locked up while prosecutors attempted to try him as an adult. He ultimately beat the case, but walked out with his cars, money and former lifestyle gone. Drew also opens up about growing up under a controlling pastor father, being treated as the family “fall guy,” enduring physical punishment and living inside what he describes as a high-control religious environment. After getting sober, he made a complete turn and became a pastor himself—until the hypocrisy he witnessed forced him to question everything again. Then came another escape: the United States Army. Drew explains why looking at his newborn daughter made him want to become “G.I. Joe,” how he entered the Army with almost no shooting experience, what separated approximately 40 potential sniper candidates from a group of roughly 300 soldiers and why sniper selection was more about mindset than accuracy. He also tells the incredible story of failing the final sniper-school exercise after mistaking an “R” for a “K”—and how one superior believed in him enough to fight for the rare second chance that changed his life. And because this is Beer, Booze & B.S., the crew taste-tests Hendrick’s Grand Cabaret Gin, featuring orange blossom, cocoa and one of the coolest bottles they have ever brought onto the show. Even the non-gin drinkers are shocked by the reaction. This episode contains candid discussion of childhood abuse, addiction, illegal activity, incarceration and military experiences. The stories and opinions are those of the people sharing them. 🔥 COMMENT BELOW: Could you have survived Drew’s childhood—or the final sniper-school “Last Shot” exercise? What part of his transformation surprised you the most?
