Between the Chaos and Calm: In the Middle of Motherhood
Becoming a mother can reignite your love for our planet. It's only natural to want to leave the world in a better state for our children than the one we inherited. Yet many of us feel we lack the knowledge or experience to embrace more sustainable practices—whether it's growing our own fruits and vegetables, propagating plants, or reducing the household waste that often seems to multiply once a baby arrives. In this episode, we interview guest educator and homeschool mom of three, Heather Morales, on how she does it as the experienced thrifter, gardener, and plant mom she has become. On her page @thedailygrove [https://www.instagram.com/thedailygrove/], she has years’ worth of tips and resources on sustainability practices through the lens of motherhood and homeschooling – and she breaks it all down in this sit-down chat in a way that literally had our jaws to the floor at one point. Often, the reason these practices feel hard is because they are hard! As she points out, no one is “born” with a green thumb. It’s a skill-set, and a deeply rewarding one if we can muster the patience to begin. This episode is for you if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by stuff or killed a plant and felt discouraged. Be patient, stay curious, and arm up with Heather’s amazing tips! More About Heather: Heather is a former public school educator turned Montessori homeschooler to her three girls. She loves weaving sustainability into everyday life, always with the belief that small changes matter and perfection isn’t the goal. She can usually be found thrifting, working on a DIY project, caring for her ever-growing collection of houseplants, gardening, or enjoying an iced coffee from a repurposed jar.
