Beskrivelse

How do you build something oncology practices will actually use and trust? In this episode, I’m joined by Lavi Kwiatkowsky, Founder and CEO of Canopy, an AI platform built specifically for the care that happens between oncology visits. Think remote patient monitoring, AI-powered call management, and the infrastructure needed to support patients when they’re not sitting in front of a clinician. Unlike many of our guests, Lavi isn’t a physician. He’s a fellow founder. We’ve both spent close to a decade building in oncology, drawn to the space by personal healthcare experiences and a belief that some of healthcare’s most important problems can be solved through better systems and technology. We explore the experience that led Lavi to start Canopy, the process failures he encountered as a patient, and why trust remains the biggest hurdle facing technological innovations in oncology. This conversation offers a practical look at what it takes to drive meaningful change in oncology. Covered in this episode: * Why trust is the biggest challenge in healthcare technology adoption. * What turns skeptical clinicians into technology advocates. * The areas of oncology most ready for AI and automation. * What an oncology-specific technology stack could look like. * How change management influences technology adoption. episode The Hidden Barriers to Progress Within Oncology with Dr. Adam Bass cover

The Hidden Barriers to Progress Within Oncology with Dr. Adam Bass

How do you know when following the guidelines is the right call… and when it isn't? That question becomes very real when you're sitting across from a patient whose situation doesn't fit neatly into the evidence. In this episode, we’re joined by Dr. Adam Bass, physician-scientist and incoming leader of the Gastroesophageal Cancer Therapeutics Accelerator at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Dr. Bass has spent his career tackling some of oncology's most complex questions. His work with The Cancer Genome Atlas helped reveal that what was once thought to be a single disease was actually several distinct diseases with different underlying biologies, a discovery that continues to influence drug development today. He later led global oncology drug development at Novartis before returning to patient care and research. In this conversation, we explore the tension between evidence and individual patients, why more data doesn't always make decisions easier, and whether some of the biggest challenges in oncology stem from the disease itself or how we've chosen to study it. We also discuss clinical trial design, patient education, the future role of the oncologist, and why collaboration may be one of the most important drivers of progress. This episode offers a thoughtful look at some of the hardest questions in modern oncology. Covered in this episode: * When it's right to follow the guidelines and when it may not be. * Why more data doesn't always lead to clearer decisions. * The gap in patient understanding and education. * Why trying to understand everything about AI could be blocking us from solving bigger problems. * The power of collaboration in solving oncology's toughest problems If you got value from this episode of Beyond the Chart, subscribe on your favorite podcast platform so you don’t miss the next one. episode Expert Insights on the Patient Experience in Oncology cover

Expert Insights on the Patient Experience in Oncology

Technology in oncology is not just about efficiency or innovation. At its best, it creates more space for human connection, deeper understanding, and better care for the people behind the diagnosis. Today on Beyond the Chart, we look back at some of the most impactful conversations we’ve had on the podcast through one lens - the patient. We’re revisiting perspectives from leaders across the oncology world on what it means to care for the whole patient, how the challenges facing clinicians have evolved, and where technology may help strengthen the relationship between patients and providers rather than weaken it. We hear from Dr. Kathy Oubre on caring for patients within her Louisiana community, Dr. Diane Reidy-Lagunes on human connection and physician burnout, Dr. Guri Doshi on bridging the gap between caregivers and patients, and Dr. Douglas Flora on how AI may help make care more human. We also revisit conversations with Dr. Lalan Wilfong on caring for patients between visits, Dr. Debra Patt on patient education and clinical knowledge at the point of care, Dr. Sean Khozin on the importance of communication and human signals in medicine, Dr. Sanjay Juneja on patient access, and Dr. Lidia Schapira on survivorship care and the future role of AI in oncology. If you care about the human side of cancer care, this episode brings together some of the most thoughtful perspectives shared on Beyond the Chart so far. Covered in this episode: * How technology can support more human-centered cancer care. * The evolving challenges clinicians face in serving patients. * Why communication remains central to oncology. * How AI may help strengthen the physician-patient relationship. episode AI Adoption in Oncology: Two Different Perspectives with the Oncology Brothers cover

AI Adoption in Oncology: Two Different Perspectives with the Oncology Brothers

In oncology, there are 40 to 50 new drug approvals and indications every year. How is any oncologist supposed to keep up with that and still see patients? In this episode, we’re joined by the Oncology Brothers - Dr. Rohit Gosain and Dr. Rahul Gosain. Rohit is an oncologist at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center with a background in computer engineering, and Rahul practices at the Wilmot Cancer Institute and holds an MBA alongside his MD. Together, they’ve built one of the most followed oncology podcasts in the U.S., helping clinicians make sense of the latest research in. We explore how their podcast came to be, and the value that it’s bringing to the community. We then dive deep into AI adoption. Rohit is already using ambient AI in his practice, while Rahul, by his own admission, is not, leading to a balanced discussion on what it will take to bring more oncologists on board. Covered in this episode: * How oncologists can keep up with rapid change. * How the OncBrothers built one of the most followed oncology podcasts. * Two different perspectives on AI adoption in oncology. * What’s holding clinicians back from using AI tools? * Where AI is already adding value in oncology practice. What It Takes to Turn Data and AI Discovery Into Outcomes with Dr. Alicia Zhou (Part 2)

Everyone agrees that AI will transform how we discover new cancer treatments. The big question though, is what will it take to get there? As access to new forms of data expands, the potential for breakthroughs grows with it. However, many of those breakthroughs risk never making it beyond the idea stage. This is part two of our conversation with Dr. Alicia Zhou, CEO at Cancer Research Institute. We focus on the role that data and AI has on patient outcomes, how the toolkit of a bench scientist is evolving, and whether fully automated discovery is on the horizon. We also address the adoption challenge - the gap between a promising innovation and the product that researchers and clinicians actually end up using. If you’re thinking about where AI is headed in cancer care and where the gaps lie in adoption, this is for you. Covered in this episode: * How AI is reshaping the future of scientific discovery. * What the next generation of tools for researchers may look like. * The potential of new data sources, including ambient clinical data. * What it takes to build tools that people actually use. * Bridging the gap between innovation and real-world adoption.
