SPEAKER: Pastor Russel Moldovan Pastor Russel Moldovan’s sermon, "Naaman Took the Plunge; We Can Too!”, examines the healing of Naaman in 2 Kings 5 and draws several important spiritual lessons from his story. Although Naaman was powerful, respected, and successful, he could not cure his leprosy, just as no one can solve the deeper problem of sin without God’s grace. Pastor Russel explains that God desires to reach even those we consider enemies, often uses suffering and painful circumstances to accomplish something good, and frequently works through ordinary means rather than spectacular displays. The compassion of the kidnapped Israelite girl and the story of Saint Patrick demonstrate how God can use faithful people to point even their captors and enemies toward Him. The sermon then connects Naaman’s cleansing in the Jordan River with Christian baptism. Naaman’s pride nearly prevented him from obeying God’s simple command, but when he humbled himself and took the plunge, he was healed and came to recognize the one true God. Pastor Russel emphasizes that baptism does not save by the power of the water itself—Jesus Christ is the Savior—but baptism is the faithful and obedient response of someone who has chosen to follow Him. Drawing from 1 Peter 3, John 3, Galatians 3, and Romans 6, he presents baptism as a washing, a new birth, a change of clothing, and a participation in Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. The message concludes by challenging believers not to view baptism as a burden or minimum requirement, but as a gracious gift and joyful opportunity to obey Jesus.
