Christian Women In The UK
n this episode of our **Women of the Bible series**, we continue our journey through Scripture by exploring the life, faith, relationships, and ministry of **Priscilla (Prisca) and Aquila**, with a particular focus on the significant role Priscilla played in the early Christian church.Priscilla’s story gives us a powerful picture of what it can look like for a woman to know God personally, grow deeply in relationship with Him, serve His people, use her God-given gifts, and partner with her husband in advancing the kingdom of God.Her life challenges us to think more deeply about what biblical relationships, Christian community, marriage, leadership, discipleship, and partnership can look like when they are centred on God.### A Woman Who Knew God for HerselfAt the heart of Priscilla’s story is her relationship with God. Her faith was not simply something inherited from others or defined by the people around her. She knew God for herself, and that relationship shaped the way she lived, served, and interacted with others.### Priscilla, Aquila and Paul: Healthy Relationships with Church LeadersWe also explore Priscilla’s relationship with the Apostle Paul and what it can teach us about our own relationships with church leaders and those who serve in Christian ministry.Paul clearly had a deep respect and affection for Priscilla and Aquila. They were not simply names he encountered during his ministry; they were people with whom he shared life, work, ministry, friendship, and Christian fellowship.### A Warm Relationship with the ChurchPriscilla’s life also shows us something beautiful about Christian community.Perhaps one of the most striking aspects of their ministry was their willingness to open their home to believers. Their home became a place where the church could gather, fellowship, worship, and grow.### Priscilla and Apollos: Discipleship with Wisdom and SensitivityThe encounter between Priscilla, Aquila, and Apollos gives us an especially powerful example of Christian discipleship.Apollos was gifted, passionate, knowledgeable, and effective in teaching. Yet there was still more for him to learn.Priscilla and Aquila recognised this and responded with wisdom. They did not diminish his gifts. Instead, they helped him understand the truth more fully. This raises important questions for us:Priscilla's example demonstrates that teaching others is not merely about possessing knowledge. It is also about having the character, wisdom, humility, and sensitivity to communicate truth in a way that helps another person grow.### Marriage as Partnership in the Kingdom of GodAnother important theme in this episode is Priscilla’s marriage to Aquila.Priscilla and Aquila worked together. They served together. They opened their home together. They discipled others together. They were known together within the early Christian community.Their story therefore invites us to reflect on the nature of Christian marriage and what it means for husband and wife to become genuine partners in the work God has entrusted to them.### Biblical Marriage and the Elevation of WomenOur study guide summarises this theme with the thought that **true biblical marriage is not achieved by weakening the man, but by elevating the woman**.This is particularly significant when we consider the patriarchal world in which Priscilla lived. Her story reminds us that the biblical vision of a woman fulfilling her God-given role, gifts, talents, and calling does not require the man to be diminished. Instead, both husband and wife can be strengthened as they recognise and honour what God has placed within each other. She challenges us to cultivate a personal relationship with God rather than relying solely on the faith or kn**Bible passages referenced:** Acts 18; Romans 16; 1 Corinthians 16; 2 Timothy 4.
