Beskrivelse

It's hoped newly planned security measures for Shannon Airport can free up Garda availability across Clare. The Clare base received €1.9m in funding earlier this year, with much of this due to go towards the construction of an Airfield Security Perimeter fence. There have been five alleged incursions by activists since March 2024 and the Airport is now also planning to install high security anti-ram barriers to prevent vehicles from entering. Cratloe Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat O'Gorman says the incidents have affected Garda resources in the past.

Obair "Devastated" Following "Unfair" Burglary In Newmarket-On-Fergus

A Clare community services provider that suffered a break-in last week says staff are "devastated" by the incident which they've branded as "unfair". Obair on the Ennis Road in Newmarket-on-Fergus was burgled in the early hours of last Wednesday morning, with the perpetrators absconding with approximately €600 in cash. The service operates a Meals on Wheels service which caters to over 300 people five days a week, while the building also contains a creche, an afterschool and post-primary programme, remote working hubs, a youth café and an environmental section. Siobhan Griffin, who works for Obair, says the burglary is particularly upsetting in the context of the positive work the organisation does in the community.
