[212] What It Means to Walk Your Path

Antonio Machado wrote a line that has stayed with me for years. Caminante, no hay camino. Se hace camino al andar. Traveler, there is no path. The path is made by walking. I find that line both liberating and terrifying in equal measure. And I think that's exactly right. Because the path you are walking — the one that is yours, that belongs to your particular Genius, your particular calling, your particular figure eight — is not something that was laid out before you arrived. Spirituality means different things to different people. For some it's inseparable from religious faith. For others it's entirely secular — a felt sense of connection to something larger, a recognition that the individual life is embedded in something that extends beyond it. For others still, it's a word that carries enough baggage from past experiences that it needs to be approached slowly. All of that is welcome here. And today we look at it as a strength. [209] Naming Your Season

We talked about your life as infinity loop, and what it looks like to be stuck on one side, usually exhaustion. Today we talk about what season you're in. When you can name your season, you can see the movement of the past and the future and not feel so stuck. Name the season and name what it's asking of you. Because every season has an invitation. A specific quality of attention or courage or patience or presence that it requires. And when you name the season, you can hear the invitation more clearly.
