Consuming Impulse

Dave Edwardson, affectionately known as Dave Ed is not only one of the greatest bassists to have ever stepped into metal and punk -- but also one of the most amazing vocalists. He's a founder of the band Neurosis, part owner of the Neurot label and has been at and involved in countless amazing things along the way. We dive into the Bay Area in the early 80s as Dave fell into the world of punk and metal -- seeing bands like the Dead Kennedys, Metallica, Exodus and follow his journey starting his own bands which lead to Violent Coercion that broke away and formed Neurosis. From there we look at the Gilman Street venue and the evolving sound of Neurosis and how it hit the powder keg for the Through Silver In Blood record. Dave talks to us about navigating the mass turnover of major labels, signing with Relapse and eventually Relapse helped Neurosis form their own label. We touch on Dave's basses, too. His amazing band with Mauz from Dystopia called Kicker on Tankcrimes Records. His new vocals on a Krallice song released just this week, his work with Nailbomb playing with Max from Sepultura/Soulfly and Alex from Fudge Tunnel in front of 180,000 people at Dynamo festival. Eric Wagner interview (The Skull/Trouble/Probot/Lid/Black Finger) April 19th, 2020. This morning's chat with Eric Wagner from Trouble, The Skull and Probot was awesome. It's always awesome chatting with Eric since he has such a unique viewpoint. Went through from the Metal Massacre compilation to Trouble being signed to Metal Blade records.. the "white metal" label that they were tarred with. From there we talk about the evolution of the band where they got signed to Rick Rubin's Def American label and what that whole time was like -- hopefully those records are not lost in obscurity and they get pressed again! We touched on the whole Probot scenario with Dave Grohl and how the writing of that set of lyrics was an uncertainty. We also touch on The Skull and how the latest album "The Endless Road Turns Dark" was just super aggressive in comparison to the first. Fred Estby interview (Dismember/Necronaut/The Dagger) | April 4th, 2020 Woke up at the crack of dawn this morning to talk to Fred Estby about apprenticing at Sunlight Studios, his chemistry in creativity with another powerhouse Nicke Andersson, the trials and tribulations that Dismember Sweden went through with being sued by English Customs for the Skin Her Alive EP, his all-star solo record with the who's-who of Swedish vocalists on it and the weird state of affairs as the black metal mania swept over the world. Gizz Butt interview (English Dogs/The Prodigy/Janus Stark/The Destructors) | March 30th, 2020 We turned on Skype and I just hit record, 'cause I don't care about trying to section it or make it follow a chronology anymore. Ron Martinez interview (Final Conflict/LOWER CLASS BRATS/Crawlspace Booking) | April 11th, 2020 Taped a 2 hour episode with Ron Martinez today and we went through the turmoils of what's going on with the live music industry, the way Final Conflict lineup came about in the mid 80s.
