You sent widows away empty-handed." None of it is true. The narrator told us in chapter 1: Job was blameless. There is no evidence anywhere in the book that Job did any of these things. Eliphaz is fabricating — and the fabrication is the lowest point of the friends' long slide from comfort to cruelty. Not because Job is abandoning faith — but because he refuses to let pious fiction stand in place of honest observation. Honest about what you see. Faithful to who you know. Both.
