Beskrivelse

In this episode of Dan & Can Podcast, we dive into the shocking gaps in understanding around women’s bodies, sex, reproduction, and abortion within evangelical and fundamentalist Christian culture. After reacting to viral clips of lawmakers misunderstanding basic female anatomy, we unpack a much deeper issue: how purity culture, fear-based religion, and black-and-white thinking have left many Christians disconnected from how the human body actually works. We discuss: * Why sex education is often absent in evangelical spaces * How abortion became a political tool to secure Christian votes * The difference between being “pro-birth” and truly pro-life * Why abortion is sometimes necessary healthcare * How nuance disappears in fundamentalist systems * The impact of purity culture on women’s understanding of their own bodies * Christian nationalism and the push for larger families * Why curiosity and education are often discouraged in rigid religious environments This conversation is honest, nuanced, and deeply personal. We’re not interested in shame or outrage—we’re interested in awareness, humanity, and asking better questions. If you’ve ever struggled to reconcile faith, politics, bodily autonomy, or sexuality, this episode is for you.🎙️ Subscribe for more conversations about deconstruction, relationships, healing, psychology, spirituality, and reclaiming your humanity after rigid belief systems.#Deconstruction #Evangelicalism #AbortionDebate #PurityCulture #ChristianNationalismSupport us:  https://buymeacoffee.com/danandcan [https://buymeacoffee.com/danandcan]Work with Candace (Hypnotherapy & Subconscious Reprogramming after leaving toxic religion): http://CandidCoachingCo.com [http://candidcoachingco.com] #Deconstruction #Christianity #PurityCulture #AbortionDebate #WomenHealth #Fundamentalism #ChristianNationalism #ReligiousTrauma #Exvangelical #WomensRights #SexEducation #DeconstructingFaith #ProChoice #BodyAutonomy #DanAndCan #CandidConversations #ReligionAndPolitics #FemaleAnatomy #HealingFromReligion  What happens when an entire culture treats sex as shameful, avoids real education about women’s bodies, and then builds political movements around controlling reproduction? episode Candid Conversations 163: Feeling Good Is a Radical Act of Resistance cover

Candid Conversations 163: Feeling Good Is a Radical Act of Resistance

In this episode of Candid Conversations, we explore why feeling good can actually feel physically uncomfortable — especially for people raised in evangelical Christianity, fear-based environments, or systems built around shame, guilt, division, and chronic stress. Why does peace feel unfamiliar? Why does rest feel unsafe? Why does joy sometimes trigger guilt instead of freedom? We unpack the conflicting messages many of us were raised with: Your body is “the temple of the Holy Spirit”… but also sinful. You should care for yourself… but deny yourself. You should love others… but fear the world. You should feel grateful… but also constantly worry. We discuss how both religious systems and political fear cycles can train the nervous system to stay in chronic stress and hypervigilance — making calmness, self-love, safety, pleasure, and even simple gratitude feel “wrong” or dangerous to the subconscious mind. In this conversation, we talk about: * subconscious programming and fear * nervous system conditioning * evangelical shame culture * why peace can feel unsafe * gratitude and subconscious rewiring * self-love and embodiment * chronic fear in politics and religion * the ripple effect of emotional states * learning to feel safe in the present moment * why joy is not selfish One of the biggest practical tools we discuss is creating a handwritten gratitude practice — starting with just ONE thing each day — training the mind to begin noticing beauty, safety, peace, and goodness again. Because what we focus on grows. Fear ripples outward. But so does peace. So does love. So does nervous system regulation. So does emotional safety. Feeling good is not weakness. It is not selfishness. And it is not ignorance. Sometimes, choosing peace in a world addicted to outrage is one of the most radical things a person can do. 🎙️ Subscribe for more candid conversations about healing, nervous system regulation, deconstruction, psychology, relationships, subconscious programming, and reclaiming your authentic self. #CandidConversations #Deconstruction #NervousSystemHealing #SelfLove Support us:  https://buymeacoffee.com/danandcan [https://buymeacoffee.com/danandcan]Work with Candace (Hypnotherapy & Subconscious Reprogramming after leaving toxic religion): http://CandidCoachingCo.com [http://candidcoachingco.com]#CandidConversations#Deconstruction#ReligiousTrauma#Evangelicalism#NervousSystemHealing#SelfLove#SubconsciousMind#MindBodyConnection#HealingJourney#GratitudePractice#MentalHealth#EmotionalHealing#InnerPeace#TraumaHealing#FearProgramming#Embodiment#MindsetShift#HealingFromReligion#SelfWorth#EmotionalRegulation What if repentance was never about shame? What if it simply meant having the courage to change your mind when you encounter deeper truth, deeper humanity, and deeper understanding? That kind of repentance doesn’t make you smaller. It makes you more human. Dan & Can Podcast 174: The Hidden Role Religion Plays in Family Estrangement

In this episode of Dan and Can, we talk openly about family estrangement, the growing epidemic of broken relationships between parents and adult children, and the role church culture can sometimes play in creating or deepening those divides.Too often, the conversation around estrangement becomes about blame. Adult children are labeled selfish, bitter, or unforgiving. Parents are told to simply pray harder, stand firm, or double down on the same beliefs and behaviors that may have contributed to the separation in the first place. Meanwhile, the deeper system underneath it all often goes unquestioned. We explore how certain religious teachings around authority, obedience, shame, emotional suppression, gender roles, perfectionism, and unconditional submission can quietly damage authentic connection within families — even when everyone involved genuinely loves each other. We also share some of our own experience with estrangement and what we’ve learned through the pain of it.This conversation is not about villainizing parents or children. It’s about honesty, accountability, self-awareness, healing, and learning how to look inward without shame. Real reconciliation cannot be forced. Both people have to do the internal work if healing and reconnection are ever going to happen. If you’ve experienced estrangement, deconstruction, religious trauma, family conflict, or the grief of disconnection, you are not alone. We’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences in the comments — respectfully and compassionately.#Estrangement #ReligiousTrauma #Deconstruction #FamilyHealing Subscribe for more conversations on deconstruction, relationships, authenticity, creativity, psychology, culture, and what it means to be fully human.  Support us:  https://buymeacoffee.com/danandcan [https://buymeacoffee.com/danandcan]Work with Candace (Hypnotherapy & Subconscious Reprogramming after leaving toxic religion): http://CandidCoachingCo.com [http://candidcoachingco.com] #FamilyEstrangement #ReligiousTrauma #Deconstruction #ChurchTrauma #AdultChildren #ParentChildRelationship #HealingJourney #ToxicFamilyDynamics #Exvangelical #FaithDeconstruction #EmotionalHealing #FamilyConflict #MentalHealthAwareness #SelfAwareness #DanAndCan  Have you experienced estrangement from a loved one? Candid Conversations 162: What Repentance Actually Means | Changing Your Mind After Deconstruction

In this episode of Candid Conversations, we unpack the true meaning of repentance — and why many of us may have misunderstood it our entire lives. After seeing a church sign warning people to “repent because Jesus is coming soon,” Candi began reflecting on what repentance actually means. Not shame. Not fear. Not blind agreement with religious systems. At its core, repentance means to change your mind. But what happens when you were raised inside a belief system and never truly had the freedom to think differently in the first place? We explore: * The original meaning of repentance * Why indoctrination and true transformation are not the same thing * How curiosity and courage lead to real growth * The discomfort that comes when old beliefs are challenged * Learning to see marginalized people as fully human * How empathy changes the way we think and live * Why changing your mind can actually be truly Christ-like * The difference between fear-based religion and genuine inner transformation We also discuss how many Christians are taught to see certain groups — including transgender people and drag queens — through fear, suspicion, and judgment before ever hearing their stories or understanding their humanity. What happens when you allow yourself to truly listen instead? This conversation is about awareness, humility, compassion, and the courage to rethink what you’ve always been told. If you’re deconstructing your faith, questioning inherited beliefs, or learning how to hold nuance and humanity together, this episode is for you. 🎙️ Subscribe for more conversations on deconstruction, psychology, spirituality, relationships, healing, and reclaiming your humanity after rigid belief systems. #Deconstruction #Repentance #Exvangelical #CandidConversations Support us:  https://buymeacoffee.com/danandcan [https://buymeacoffee.com/danandcan]Work with Candace (Hypnotherapy & Subconscious Reprogramming after leaving toxic religion): http://CandidCoachingCo.com [http://candidcoachingco.com]#Repentance#Deconstruction#Exvangelical#ReligiousTrauma#Christianity#FaithDeconstruction#SpiritualGrowth#ChangingYourMind#DeconstructingFaith#LGBTQ#TransRights#HumanityFirst#CuriosityWithoutJudgment#ProgressiveChristianity#ReligiousIndoctrination#HealingJourney#CandidConversations#Empathy#SpiritualAwakening#Evangelicalism What if repentance was never about shame? What if it simply meant having the courage to change your mind when you encounter deeper truth, deeper humanity, and deeper understanding? That kind of repentance doesn’t make you smaller. It makes you more human. Dan & Can Podcast 173: AI vs Authenticity: Why Human Creativity Still Hits Different

In this episode of the Dan and Can Podcast, we dive into AI, authenticity, creativity, and why human expression still matters in a world increasingly filled with artificial content. As AI-generated art, music, writing, videos, and digital creations flood the internet, we explore the growing tension between convenience and authenticity. Can artificial intelligence truly create meaningful art? Or does real depth only come through lived human experience, emotion, struggle, curiosity, and individuality? We talk about how AI often produces content that feels polished but shallow — appealing to mass consumption while missing the soul, imperfection, and emotional resonance that make human creativity powerful. From music and painting to storytelling and writing, authentic art comes from real people living real lives. This conversation also connects deeply to deconstruction, self-expression, and breaking free from systems that pressure people to conform. We discuss how authenticity itself becomes a form of resistance in oppressive cultures and belief systems. Throughout history, some of the most powerful artistic movements emerged during times of restriction, fear, and social control. Humanity responds to oppression with creativity, honesty, beauty, rebellion, and truth. We explore why people are naturally drawn to originality — the “red flower in a field of white flowers” effect — and why being weird, different, emotional, thoughtful, and fully yourself may actually be the future of meaningful connection in the age of AI.If you've ever struggled to fit into societal expectations, questioned conformity, explored deconstruction, or wondered what makes art truly human, this episode is for you.
