Dogs in the News
Tom Aaron is the co-owner of FetchMasters [http://fetchmasters.com/] as well as the co-creator of the Positive Gun Training Program [http://www.positivegundogtraining.com/], a program for dogs focused on high-development obedience, off-leash reliability, and bird dog hunting. Ton, as well as his wife and business partner Linda, is a certified trainer by the Certification Council for Professional Dogs organization and focuses his training techniques around using positive reinforcement strategies. Tom joins us today to share his background as a bird dog trainer and how he discovered that positive reinforcement techniques often work well for many working dogs. He explains how he discovered the positive training techniques he uses today, how he manages to train over 1,000 per year, and the type of dog breeds he typically works with. He also explains the difference between forced-fetch training and positive training, the impact that your relationship with your dog can have on his training and hunting performance, and the various methods he has found help speed up a gun dog's training process. "The essence of positive training is not treats. It's not praise. It's not play.
