COLD: Computer forensics and the Susan Powell case

Nine years after Susan Powell vanished from her West Valley City, Utah home, more than a terabyte of data from her husband and his father's digital devices remains encrypted -- and therefore unknown to police. But much of what we do know about the case from the top-rated podcast, Cold [https://thecoldpodcast.com], comes from data seized from those machines. The FBI has 16 Regional Computer Forensics Labs around the country, and one of them, led by Supervisory Special Agent Cheney Eng-Tow, is in Salt Lake City. Special Agent Dustin Grant coordinates the Child Exploitation Task Force for the FBI Salt Lake City Division, which covers Utah, Montana and Idaho. It's his job to stand between internet predators and your children, and hopefully prevent your teen from becoming the next victim who is groomed and lured into sexual exploitation. His team also handles cases like kidnapping, but he says they spend the bulk of their time on the internet because that's where the offenders are spending most of their time - not on the playground, but right in your own home, via video game, smartphone or computer.

The Cyber Task Force: keeping your business in business

The rate of cybercrime is climbing exponentially, in part because of the quickly changing landscape of the available technology. Businesses face cyber threats all the time, which is why the FBI Salt Lake City Division has a Cyber Task Force. Supervisory Special Agent Jeff Collins explains what his unit does to prevent fraud, phishing and other scams, and how you can protect your information from thieves and hackers, in this interview with FBI Confidential's Debbie Dujanovic.

The technology has changed a lot in the few short years since the 9/11 attacks. The threat from so-called "lone wolf" type terrorists has grown as more people self-radicalize.
