First Century Christianity
In this Independence Day message, we reflect on the remarkable founding of the United States, the sacrifices of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and the providence of Yahweh in the rise of this nation. From Columbus and Vespucci to the courage of the colonists, the Revolutionary War, George Washington’s leadership, and the biblical questions surrounding government, authority, and revolution, this teaching explores how America’s founding was unlike other revolutions in history. We also examine the spiritual responsibility of leadership, the dangers of tyranny, the importance of operating in the light, and the continuing tension between freedom, authority, national decline, and faithfulness to God. As believers, we give thanks for the freedoms we have while remembering that all nations rise and fall under the authority of the Most High.
