Flight to Fulfilment with Ratika Seth
Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2019441/fan_mail/new] Have you ever felt like... if you stopped trying... your relationship would stop moving too? You're the one who checks in first. The one who starts the difficult conversations. The one who apologizes to keep the peace. The one who remembers the birthdays, the plans, the little details. The one who keeps giving second chances. The one who keeps hoping. The one who keeps holding everything together. And somewhere along the way... love started feeling less like a partnership... and more like a full-time responsibility. You tell yourself, "I'm just being supportive." "Relationships take work." "If I don't do it, who will?" But have you ever stopped to ask yourself... Why does it always have to be you? Because there comes a point where caring stops feeling like love... and starts feeling like emotional labour. Hello beautiful soul, Welcome back to another honest and deeply reflective episode of the Flight to Fulfillment Podcast—a space where we explore emotional healing, self-worth, and the hidden patterns that shape the way we love, connect, and relate to ourselves. I'm your host, Ratika Seth, Life Enhancement Coach and founder of the Freedom Divas Hub—a community where women reconnect with themselves, rebuild self-trust, and create lives rooted in freedom, self-respect, and conscious choice. Today's conversation is about a pattern that many women wear like a badge of honour... without realizing how much it's costing them. Overfunctioning in relationships. At first, it looks like love. Like commitment. Like patience. Like maturity. Like being the partner who always tries a little harder. But beneath that... there's often something much deeper. A fear that if you stop carrying the relationship... it might fall apart. Overfunctioning happens when you begin taking responsibility for things that don't actually belong to you. You manage someone else's emotions. You constantly compensate for their lack of effort. You solve problems they need to solve themselves. You keep the relationship emotionally alive... even when the effort isn't being matched. And slowly... you stop being a partner. You become the manager of the relationship. The heartbreaking part is... many women don't even realize they're doing it. Because they were raised to believe that love means giving more. Being more understanding. More patient. More forgiving. More available. More accommodating. And if something isn't working... they assume they simply haven't loved hard enough yet. But healthy relationships aren't built by one person doing the emotional work for two. They're built through shared responsibility. Shared effort. Shared accountability. Because when one person keeps overfunctioning... the other often stops functioning altogether. Not always intentionally... but because someone else is already carrying the weight. So in today's episode, we're going to explore the subtle signs you're overfunctioning in your relationships, why this pattern develops, and how to create relationships where love feels like partnership—not pressure.
