Dan and Angel are back for a life update, and there's a lot to catch up on! From a surprise valedictorian to empty-nesting adventures, new friendships, a church search, and a real estate business that's doubled, this episode is a real, unscripted check-in from two Gen X realtors navigating a big life season. In This Episode 🎓 Harry Graduates — A Year Early, as Valedictorian. After the family relocated from California to South Carolina in 2024, their son Harry struggled with the transition — new school, new state, no friends. The solution? Accelerate. What started as a way to end the school battles became a masterclass in goal-setting. Harry mapped out deadlines on a whiteboard, tracked scripture alongside countdown timers, and crossed the finish line as valedictorian of his class. Oh — and the school has since closed, so the timing couldn't have been more perfect. 🌙 The Midnight Curfew Chronicles: Harry is 18, out of school, and testing limits. After strolling in at 1:40 a.m., a new rule was established: midnight, or $1 per minute late. Harry, being very money-conscious, now arrives at 11:59 on the dot. Net earnings so far: $5. 🏕️ Camp Counselor Bound — Hello, Empty Nesting Harry heads to Montana for most of July as a Christian camp counselor, which means Dan and Angel are about to become empty nesters for the first time in 20 years. They're already leaning in — gym, dates, new friends, and exploring South Carolina. 👻 Annie's Living Her Best Life in Savannah. Daughter Annie (who goes by Anakin — yes, really) now works ghost and history tours in Savannah with Savannah History and Haunts. It's history, it's ghosts, and she's in charge. Peak Annie. 🃏 Porch Poker Run & New Friends: On a whim, they sat at the bar at their favorite Italian restaurant, Laura, on Kentucky Derby night — and walked away with new friends and an invite to a Porch Poker Run fundraiser for Alzheimer's research. Historic home porches, golf carts, themed décor, open bars, and a Dancing with the Stars follow-up event. South Carolina community life is officially delivering. ⛪ The Church Search Struggle is Real. This has been the hardest part of the move. After visiting 20+ churches and finding too many "dance class" services and not enough Scripture-based messages, they visited an Anglican church in Hilton Head with friends — and it clicked. Reverent, liturgical, word-for-word Bible teaching. Real wine at communion, a chalice, circular wafers. Dan and Angel are now exploring Anglican churches in Summerville. Online recommendation: Joby Martin's 11:22 Church 📈 Business Has Doubled Their real estate client base has doubled, fueled by referral relationships and agents from other states trusting them with relocating buyers. Data centers are coming to South Carolina fast. Google has committed to a $9 billion investment through 2027 in Berkeley and Dorchester Counties. A separate company has proposed an 860-acre, $6 billion campus right next to the ACE Basin in Colleton County. And South Carolina has no official system for tracking how many centers exist, how much water they are drawing, or how much power they are consuming. We follow the money, look at what protections exist for ratepayers, and talk about the bill that would have changed things and died on May 14th. We also cover what the national resistance looks like, because it is real, organized, and winning in some places. We are not anti-technology. We are two realtors who live here and think you deserve the full picture before you make the most important financial decision of your life.
