EP 44 // He Didn't Speak Loudly, But He Said Everything - A Tribute to My Horse Henrik

This episode is different. There are no training tips today, no exercises to try. Just a story about a horse — and what he gave me. His full name was Der schwarze Heinrich. I called him Henrik. I bought him in Germany as a beautiful five-year-old black stallion, and for many years he was my training partner, my companion, and the single greatest teacher I have ever had. This week I had to say goodbye to him. X-rays revealed advanced bone changes in his cervical vertebrae and his front leg — changes that explained the small signs he had been showing for months. The stable he didn't want to enter. The rides where he stopped for no clear reason. And finally, the forest he could no longer face — the forest he used to love more than anywhere. I let him go. It was the right decision. And it is the hardest thing I have done in a long time. What if the problem isn't that you're doing too little, but that you're doing too much? In this episode, we dig into one of the most overlooked topics in riding: how your seat might be blocking your horse, and what to do about it. Then spend the next five minutes doing the complete opposite: breathe out, soften everything, let your body follow the movement. Pay attention to what changes.
