Today, historians recognize this lore as a hoax fabricated by auto customizer George Barris to capitalize on the tragedy.

Flannan Isles

In December 1900, three lighthouse keepers mysteriously vanished without a trace from the remote Flannan Isles Lighthouse off the coast of Scotland. The abandoned site featured stopped clocks and missing weather gear. While folklore and pop culture suggest supernatural abduction, madness, or murder, the most plausible explanation is that the men were swept into the sea by a massive rogue wave while trying to secure equipment.

Ogopogo

Ogopogo is a legendary cryptid said to inhabit British Columbia's Okanagan Lake. Rooted in the Syilx Indigenous tradition of Nx̌ax̌aitkʷ, a sacred water spirit, the myth transformed over time into a modern monster legend. Eyewitnesses frequently report a large, serpentine creature with multiple humps. While skeptics attribute sightings to floating logs, waves, or animals like otters and sturgeon, the creature remains a major cultural icon.

Westfall UFO

On April 6, 1966, over 200 people at a Westall, Australia school witnessed a silver, disc-shaped object rapidly maneuvering in the sky. The craft, allegedly pursued by light aircraft, descended into a reserve and left a flattened circle of scorched grass. Authorities quickly initiated a cover-up, silencing witnesses. Despite theories proposing it was an errant radiation-testing balloon or military test, the mass UFO sighting remains an unsolved mystery.

It is famous for paranormal legends, including a haunted mirror and the ghost of an enslaved woman named Chloe. However, historical records debunk many of these myths.
