episode Eddie's Million Dollar Cookoff: How Men Uphold the Patriarchy cover

Eddie's Million Dollar Cookoff: How Men Uphold the Patriarchy

The patriarchy still persists because men are doing everything they can to keep it alive. When it comes to trying to maintain the facade of “masculinity” you have to ask yourself, who are they doing it for? The women don’t seemed to be impressed by it, so, they’re doing it for other men. But, does that serve them positivley? NO, what should be their closest relationships end up being weak and surface level. The Disney Channel original movie Eddie’s Million Dollar Cookoff showcases these points perfectly. Eddie’s Million Dollar Cookoff follows Eddie Ogden, star player of his baseball team. When Eddie discovers his new passion for cooking he is met with nothing but disdain from his friends and his dad (who is also his baseball coach). Eddie enters and gets into the Million Dollar Cookoff. When he learns that the Cookoff and the biggest game of the season are happening at the same time, he must make a big decision, baseball or cooking?

episode Deconstructing as a Fangirl 2.0 cover

Deconstructing as a Fangirl 2.0

Can it be possible to have a healthy relationship to the entertainment world? How does dehumanization tie into everything? Part 2 of Deconstructing Patriarchy as a Fangirl. I chat about accountability, values, parasocial relationships, dehumanization (etc). and how we can connect all these elements to patriarchy. There are so many insidious ways patriarchy can creep into our life and it's important to look into what that looks like as a fangirl, but also just as an everyday person. Deconstructing is important work. The reality is, we can connect these elements to any part of our life. It's our job to investigate how that shows up, and what we can do about it. At the end of the day, what does it really look like to live in the values you believe in? And what are the ways we've been socialized that keep us from doing so?
