First and foremost, I am extremely proud to work at  Dromoland, I am going on three years here now. It's a very historic place but what people don't see is that when you come to work here, there is an amazing culture of pride and passion which filters from the top down."

In this series we will hear about the history of Dromoland Castle, the people who work there and what is in store for guests who visit. On today's episode we meet Dorothea Madden, the Head Gardener of Dromloand, who has worked in the Walled Gardens since 1988. In her time here, Dorothea has played an enormous role in transforming the gardens of the estate to the floral heaven that is adored by our guests today. Dorothea says that her greatest achievement in her time here has been the restoration of two of Dromoland’s walled gardens. ‘It was infested with briars but we hand-dug every inch of it,’ she remembers.
