Welcome to the ‘IT Essentials Podcast’; a podcast of the Master of Governance and Law in Digital Society of the University of Groningen. In this podcast series, we will take a deeper look into the key technological concepts that you probably have heard about but nobody has explained to you before. In this third and final episode, we will talk about digital governance. We will start by defining the concept, and then mention two methods of data collection: data mining and web scraping. After that privacy issues and ethical risks will be discussed, as well as ways in which such risks can be mitigated. We invited assistant professor Federico Pianzola to talk about methods to gather data and the potential risks of the use of big data, and to help us navigate this relevant and complex topic.
