episode Episode 13: A Literal Flaming Serpent? Rosh Hashana 3:7-8 cover

Beskrivelse

Today’s mishnas talk about intention when performing a mitzvah, and about the role of symbolic actions in two famous stories in the Torah. The mishna tells us three categories of people who cannot blow the shofar for others, which leads to a brief discussion of how to tackle exclusionary content. You can find these mishnas on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Mishnah_Rosh_Hashanah.3.7?lang=bi&with=all&lang2=en].  I use a lot of Hebrew terms when I'm talking. Today I welcome special guest Rabbi Derek Rosenbaum, my buddy teacher. Our mishnas continue Tractate Sukkah’s general rules of materials for schach with rules about bundles of twigs and large boards for schach.  Rabbi Rosenbaum and I discuss our sukkah project where the students build sukkahs based on these mishnas. S2E2: Nothing Above Us but the Sky with special guest Meena Viswanath (Sukkah 1:3-4)

Today I welcome special guest Meena Viswanath, who tells us about the way she picks tractates when studying with her 7-year-old daughter. Our mishnas continue Tractate Sukkah with a discussion of items that can’t be above or below the schach and general rules of materials for schach. You can find these mishnas on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Mishnah_Sukkah.1.3?lang=bi].  I use a lot of Hebrew terms when I'm talking. Check out my glossary here [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1P8RB6qXpZ7gXEa5iYVfrANK7fskmU9Em5OaYlu0Yybs/edit?usp=sharing]. Today in particular, we listed a lot of names of orders and tractates. The Sefaria main mishna page [https://www.sefaria.org/texts/Mishnah] should be helpful to figure out which tractate is which. Are you enjoying the podcast?
