You'll hear about how Rabba Aliza learned all of the six orders of the mishna with each of her children in advance of their bnai mitzvah, two mishnas at a time. Mishna Accomplished begins on Sunday, April 19 with the first two mishnayot of tractate Rosh Hashana. New episodes will be published three times per week through Shavuot 5786.

episode S2E21: Fountains, Flying Etrogs and Snake Venom (Sukkah 4:9-10) cover

S2E21: Fountains, Flying Etrogs and Snake Venom (Sukkah 4:9-10)

We conclude our discussion of chapter 4 by digging into the second last phrase, about the Nisuch Hamayim (also known as the water libation.) We cover Sukkah 4:9-10. You can find these mishnas on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Mishnah_Sukkah.4.9?lang=bi]. While making sense of today’s mishnas, I relied heavily on the commentary of the Tiferet Yisrael. You can learn a LOT more about him if you read this article. episode Special Episode: Avot 1:14-1:15 for the 17th of Tammuz with Tami Hershkovitz of Mishnafari cover

Special Episode: Avot 1:14-1:15 for the 17th of Tammuz with Tami Hershkovitz of Mishnafari

Today is the 17th of Tammuz, so we’ve chosen to diverge from our normal tractate to cover Pirkei Avot with special guest Tami Hershkovitz, author of Mishnafari. Mishnafari is a series of books that teach social emotional learning (SEL) using the text of Pirkei Avot. Tami and I talk about how she uses storytelling and songs to teach these famous mishnayot. Even if you’ve heard these sayings before, we hope you can find new meaning as part of your 17th of Tammuz experience. You can find these mishnas on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Pirkei_Avot.1.14?lang=bi]. Interested in learning more about Mishnafari? Their website can be found here: Mishnafari [https://www.mishnafari.com/]. Find songs on YouTube here [https://www.youtube.com/@tamihershkovitzmishnafari]. Mishnafari is also on Facebook [https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61575215451420], Instagram [https://www.instagram.com/mishnafari/], and TikTok [https://www.tiktok.com/@tamihershkovitz2]. episode S2E20: Say it isn’t over (Sukkah 4:6-8) cover

S2E20: Say it isn’t over (Sukkah 4:6-8)

We conclude our discussion of the Hoshana Rabba aravot rituals and move on to expanding on other phrases from Sukkah 4:1, specifically, Hallel, simcha and sukkah. We cover three mishnas today, Sukkah 4:6-8. You can find them on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Mishnah_Sukkah.4.6?lang=bi].   Just a quick note that due to an editing error, S2E19 was initially missing one Hebrew sentence. The error has been corrected. If you are hoping to make a siyum, you don’t have to re-listen to the episode if you don’t want to - I include the missing sentence in today’s episode.  You can follow Mishna Accomplished on Instagram at @mishnaaccomplished [https://www.instagram.com/mishnaaccomplished] - only one “h” in “mishna”! I use a lot of Hebrew terms when I'm talking. Check out my glossary here [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1P8RB6qXpZ7gXEa5iYVfrANK7fskmU9Em5OaYlu0Yybs/edit?usp=sharing]. episode S2E19: Lulav and Arava in the Temple (Sukkah 4:4-5) cover

S2E19: Lulav and Arava in the Temple (Sukkah 4:4-5)

Our study of chapter 4 of Masechet Sukkah continues as the Mishna tells us how the lulav and arava were taken in the Temple. You can find these mishnas on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Mishnah_Sukkah.4.4?lang=bi]. Note: The version of the episode that was first posted here was missing a phrase in the Hebrew. This was corrected on 6/29 at 6pm eastern. You can follow Mishna Accomplished on Instagram at @mishnaaccomplished [https://www.instagram.com/mishnaaccomplished] - only one “h” in “mishna”! S2E18: Lulav and Arava, Six Seven! Sukkah 4:1-3 with special guest Rabbi Uri Topolosky

Rabbi Uri Topolosky of Kehilat Pardes - the Rock Creek Synagogue - in Rockville, MD, joins me as we start the chapter which tells us the number of times each ritual was performed in the time of the Temple. We learn that the Arba Minim and Aravot were taken six or seven times, depending on when Shabbat fell. We start to discuss the rituals of Nisuch Ha’Mayim (the water libation) and Simchat Beit HaShoeva, the great celebration held daily in the Temple on Sukkot.  You can find these mishnas on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Mishnah_Sukkah.3.9?lang=bi].
