Episode 15: Rabbinic Enactments with special guest Tzipporah Machlah Klapper (R"H 4:3-4)

Today’s mishnas continue our discussion of Rabban Yochanan Ben Zakkai’s rabbinic enactments. I am joined by Tzipporah Machlah Klapper to discuss them. More accurately, the Biblical prohibition discussed is “carrying an object four cubits in a public domain.” I wrote “carrying outside an eruv” in the script, which is a modern analogue but not the exact same case and definitely imprecise. Different people feel differently about glossing over distinctions like these when talking to kids. I appreciate the grace of those who’d prefer precision. Today’s mishnas talk about blowing the shofar on Shabbat in the Temple, and how the rabbis created new traditions after the destruction of the Temple to keep this observance alive.
