S2 Ep. 11: The Poetry of Motherhood w/ Jessica Urlichs

Hi Everyone! & thank you so much for tuning into this week's episode of Mom Mode! On this week's episode we have Sunday Times Bestselling Author - Jessica Urlichs on the podcast! This episode is special to me because within my first few weeks of motherhood I received a beautiful surprise in the mail from my friend Leah.. it was a book that Jessica wrote "All I See is You" and at the time I didn't know at first just how much that book would mean to me. As a mom I didn't realize how much I would grow, change, be challenged, go through some really dark/raw moments but I did and then I thought about all the other moms I knew going through this same chapter yet realizing that those dark/raw moments are rarely talked about. This beautiful book that Jessica wrote had the most relatable moments beautifully written and I am forever thankful because after speaking with Jessica - I realized just how real those poems truly were. Written while nap trapped with newborn, during the middle of the night feeding her baby deep in thought, exhausted, filled with anxiety..it was all real.  Jessica opens up about her experiences with postnatal anxiety and the societal pressures surrounding motherhood, particularly in relation to breastfeeding. She highlights the importance of sharing vulnerabilities and connecting with other mothers who face similar challenges. The conversation also touches on the evolving identity of women as they transition from motherhood to rediscovering themselves, with Jessica working on a new collection of poetry that explores womanhood and personal growth. The dialogue is rich with empathy and understanding, offering reassurance to mothers in various stages of their journey. It underscores the significance of self-care, community support, and the courage to express one's true feelings. Key takeaways:  * How writing became a therapeutic tool, helping process emotions and connect with other mothers.   * Practical insights on navigating postpartum challenges.  * How societal pressure, particularly around breastfeeding, can impact a mothers mental health.  * The journey of rediscovering personal identity beyond motherhood, focusing on motherhood.  * Reminder to mothers that they are not alone in their feelings and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  Perfect for: Moms longing to feel seen, heard and inspired to nurture their innermost selves again. Hit play and discover the poetic power of sharing your truth!
