This week’s Monday Mojo is a special father-son conversation centered around courage, calling, and the pursuit of dreams. Coach John Perry sits down with his son, J Perry, following J’s sophomore year at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), one of the premier musical theatre programs in the country. Together, they reflect on the journey of chasing big dreams, the sacrifices required to pursue excellence, and the importance of staying true to who you are along the way. From growing up in Nixa, Missouri to performing on one of the nation’s top collegiate stages, J shares lessons about discipline, self-belief, handling pressure, and embracing the uncertainty that comes with pursuing a passion. This episode is about more than musical theatre. It’s about having the courage to step into your purpose, trusting the process, and refusing to let fear keep you from becoming who you were created to be. Whether you’re a student-athlete, artist, coach, parent, leader, or dreamer — this conversation will challenge you to keep chasing what’s possible. J Perry is a sophomore BFA Musical Theatre student at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music from Nixa, Missouri. He is currently pursuing his passion for performing at one of the nation’s most respected musical theatre conservatories. At CCM, J most recently performed as Tobias in Sweeney Todd and served as a swing in HAIR. Known for his work ethic, humility, and passion for the arts, J continues to grow as both a performer and person while chasing his dream on the stage. Growing up in a family centered around leadership, faith, and growth, J’s story is a reminder that dreams are worth pursuing — even when the road is challenging, uncertain, or uphill.

The Styrofoam Cup In this episode, we unpack a powerful leadership lesson on humility and perspective through the story of the “styrofoam cup.” It’s a reminder that the perks, recognition, and privileges we receive are often tied to the position we hold—not who we are as a person. True leadership is about staying grounded, serving others, and remembering that influence is earned through character, not title. Stay humble, stay grateful, and never lose sight of what really matters.
